chance me for NCSSM !

Hey, this is kind of an old thread but hopefully somebody will see this…
I’m a sophomore in the Triad region and I just found out my SAT score today. I got a 1920 :’(
Can anybody tell me how competitive District 8 is and the average SAT score for my area?
I am terribly worried about my SAT score.

Whoops, I’m actually in District 6 ^

We were told you should be at least 100 point higher than the average SAT score for your home high school. That shows that you might not be challenged in your current pond.
After you reach that bar, then you are compared against your district on that and many, many other criteria.

So, what is the SAT average for your high school?

DD has friends that got in with an 1800 range SAT, but one said that her high school was ‘horrible’ and the SAT average was well below that. So, compared to her school peers, she was steps above. At NCSSM, that is (I believe) the low end.

Hey, thanks for replying!

The mean SAT score for the Class of 2012 for my school was 2080 and the combined math and critical reading score for the school overall is 1,377. Do you know how I can find my school’s total average SAT score? [NC School Report Cards](<a href=“Find Best Courses & Certifications Online 2023 - CodeSpaces”>Course Directory) only gives the combined math and critical reading score.

Wouldn’t the 2080, the score you cited first, be the mean for all three sections? You have the results for the M+CR, so… ?

Well I’m actually pretty confused on what SAT score NCSSM actually looks at…
Do they look at the mean score (combined score of all 3 sections) for the last graduated class, just the M+CR score, or the average for the whole school overall?

They definitely compare your scores to the seniors’ scores from last year. At the open house I attended, they said that they expected us to be comparable to above the levels of the seniors at our school.
They probably look mostly at the M+CR, as do most people(and schools, or so I hear), but I doubt that they completely disregard the writing section.
I solved my SAT anxiety by ordering it to be sent to NCSSM when I was signing up to take it. So, they’ve got my score, whether I like it or not. I didn’t do as well as I’d hoped, but… Nothing I can do now except work on the rest of my application.
