Can I get into Newhouse early decision? GPA: 3.19 and SAT: 2050. I don't think I have a chance but just want to see what others think.

Have you taken any AP or IB courses? If so, what’s your adjusted GPA?

Yeah my weighted GPA is 3.29

The weighted GPA for the fall 2014 class at Newhouse was 3.97.

2050 is a good SAT score. I would take the SAT again, see if you can increase your score 200 points. Study for it of course. Give the Admittance people an SAT score to drool over.

The overall SU admittance rate for ED is much higher than RD, but I do not know if that can make a difference in Newhouse or not. I think you need something else or a combination of compelling factors to give them a reason to look past your GPA. Your 1st semester senior grades will likely be important, if you can pull a 4.0+ that can help your case because even if you apply ED they might defer your application out to RD. Give the admittance people a reason to believe you can eek your weighted GPA up to a 3.5 by the end of your senior year (if it’s mathematically possible in your case).

Good luck.

Alright thanks so much!

I think your stats are low for Newhouse. I think your only realistic shot will be as an ED applicant.

I would agree with that. I am applying ED and have been told that because of all my past history with sports broadcasting I have a 50/50 shot, but I know how hard it is to get in. I don’t really think I will get in to Newhouse but I hope I do!
