(Although, since our counselors refuse to re calculate our ranks and GPAs until the start of our senior year, I'm fairly sure I'll be higher than this by application time, as I've been getting much better grades. I don't know about rank, but I'd put my GPA around a 4.0 weighted.)
-SAT: 1750 on a full-length practice test, actual score should hover a bit above - but just use 1750 to be safe.

-academic decathlon, many gold medals, team went to state level

APs:

Rice is a reach. Your SAT and GPA are on the low side, but you can get that up since you are only a junior! Work hard and get good grades. Being from Texas does not help you at Rice. You also don’t have too many ECs besides band and academic decathalon. Do you have any leadership positions? Also, sometimes colleges like to see your ECs fit your intended major. Have you done anything with engineering?
UVA is difficult for OOS - reach
I am not too familiar with stats for Texas A&M or VA Tech, but I think you would be a match? maybe a safety? I’m not sure sorry!
Good luck with the admissions process!

I think that UVA is alittle bit of a reach, its considered a public ivie and one of the hardest schools to get in on the east coast. A &M you should be good but Rice seems like an acceptable reach for you with these stats best of luck!

Thanks for the responses so far. I’m not huge on going to Rice, but that and A&M are the only schools in Texas I’d really consider going to, so I thought I’d throw it in.

Wow, non-Ivies on CC? We have some colleges in common!

Texas A&M – In-state, so match
Virginia Tech – they’re so sick of in-state people, match/in
UVA – Reach, since they reserve many of their spots for the in-state people. It(s liek Texas and the 10% rule.
Rice – Big reach

I’ve visited the UT Austin campus several times, and I’ve always gotten bad vibes from it. My friends have all loved it, and several actually plan on attending, but I just don’t feel like it’s a place I’d be very happy in. As for UT Dallas, it’s just a tad bit too close to home.

I’m also looking for good programs in Russian language and study abroad trips there, as that’s what I plan on minoring in, and those schools don’t quite have what I’m looking for as far as that’s concerned.

You get to go to Russia? You’re waaay too lucky for your own good. I’ll have to look in to that program, I’ve been teaching myself Russian for the past year and it’s a great language.

Middlebury? I’ve never heard of it, but now I’m interested. xD

Actually, neither had I until a friend of mine mentioned it to me. It’s over in Vermont and is known first and foremost for languages; it has a Quidditch team and is own ski slope. It’s a private liberal arts college. [Russian | Middlebury](Russian | Middlebury College)
You can study in Russia through Middlebury as well.

Virginia Tech: It’s a little harder for out of state students. And as long as you’re not engineering/architecture you have a good shot. Good luck!
