Nvr mind
@NickFlynn The 10% does not make sense to me, because their 25% is a 31, so why is it 10% and not at least 25%. Also, why are you basing this purely on ACT scores?
I am basing it on your ACT scores and your GPA, compared with the school stats, to approximate where you are compared to the typical incoming freshman - then I use that percentile ranking combined with the admit rate to compute your chance.
Without getting too much into the weeds, being at the 25th percentile means your chance is about 1/3 the overall admit rate for the school.
Like I hinted at above, the 25th percentile ACT score at NE is pretty harsh compared to the SAT, so your chances might actually be somewhat better (20-25%?) but not any higher than that right now with your current test scores.
@neuprospect98 My application did have a weakness, which was my GPA. It was very low freshman year (Maybe 2.7 UW, 2.9W?) and high junior year (3.9UW, 4.5W) due to extreme hardship my freshman year. All of that was explained in my application, but some schools clearly cared more than others. NEU is also not need blind which I think played a factor. I applied as a bio major. Anyways, I got a full ride scholarship to NYU, which I am ecstatic to be attending in the fall.
@NickFlynn I feel like you are really looking superficially. On Naviance, Northeastern has accepted about 50% of people from my school who applied, and everyone with an ACT of 29 or above has been accepted to Northeastern from my school. I know that I do not have a 100% chance, but I think especially because I plan to apply ED, my chances are higher than you are saying. Also, I have a rigorous schedule. Taken all core classes all 4 years, 2 languages, and online courses voluntarily and numerous electives. I have always had a full schedule.
@tlf123098 Congrats on your acceptance to NYU and the full tuition scholarship, that is absolutely amazing! I hope you love it! Good luck! My GPA has been on an upward trend, but has never been below a 91, so I hope it helps me. Ugh I wish my school told us our GPAs on the 4.0 scale, it would be much more helpful. Haha.
@neuprospect98 Thank you! Your credentials are definitely impressive and I wouldn’t worry too much if I were you. you are going to be accepted into a great school, whether or not it is your “first” (or what you think is your first choice at the time) choice school.
I think you definitely have a solid chance at American and Boston. Not really sure about GW because it has very high test scores and GPA. With Northeastern, I feel that it’s 50/50
Unless Northeastern has gotten significantly more difficult to get in that I previously thought, you seem to be a solid match for literally all the schools you listed. Your stats seem to be in the median for basically all of them…
Good luck!
it has gotten a lot more difficult. The mid 59% for admitted students ACT is 31-33.
(admit%, median SAT, median ACT)
NE 32%, 2110, 32
BU 35%, 1950, 29
GW 44%, 1950, 29
AU 46%, 1870, 28
The OP has some great extra-curriculars, a good academic record and solid test scores. However, NE is definitely much more of a stretch than the other schools because of the above stats, even with Early Decision.
From the OP:
“Would you recommend that I retake it in September or should I be content with the 31? I feel like the 31 is pretty solid for these schools…maybe?”
That’s what you asked. I think the answer is clearly that you are fine for BU, GW and AU, but a 31 is a little light for NE. Considering that NE is your preferred target, I think you ought to consider taking another crack at the ACT (or the SAT) to raise your chances. Of course, that’s just my opinion, and you have to make your own decision.
@RamenUniversity Thank you very much for your thoughts!!
@TomSrOfBoston Yeah, but also I feel like a bit needs to be taken into account with that number. This might not be true, but let me know your thoughts. I am applying to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and I would think that admission to this program would be a bit different than to say science, business, or health. I would think that, and this might be crazy I do not know, that maybe my ACT score is good for the school within NEU that I am applying to. Also, my English and Humanities grades are the highest grades on my transcript, which could also be a factor to be taken into account during these chance me posts. What do you think about this? Whenever I read Northeastern threads, you always seem to comment and be very helpful and knowledgeable! ((:
@NickFlynn Thank you for your help! I agree with you, I think I will take another crack at the ACT! It seems to be in my best interest, hopefully I can superscore up to, at least a 33, I will try my hardest! Thank you!
Good luck!

@neuprospect98 Northeastern has never published admission stats by college other than to say CCIS is the highest.
I think NU is a low reach but a reachable reach. The stats have increased each year. I have no idea where some above posters come up with their percentage chances. I would recommend “showing interest”. If possible visit campus. Check out the faculty in your intended major and send them an email etc.
One caveat about Naviance is the students report all their scores but may not send them all to a particular school. It may show someone was accepted with a 29 but they also had a 2150 SAT, which they sent in.
@TomSrOfBoston I have visited NEU twice, and have requested information, I am already on the path to demonstrating as much interest as I possibly can! NEU is for me!
I started my prep for the Sept. ACT today, so I hope to get a 33 to make it a match.
You are totally right about the naviance thing, that worries me. Also, the data is from a rang of 2006-2015, and the difficulty in admission has skyrocketed since that time. However NEU seems to like my school, last year they admitted 23/29 students who applied, and I think ten attended. So, I hope that works in my favor since they know my high school loves them!
@neuprospect if you look at the Northeastern decision thread from March here on CC you will see that students with 28’s were accepted and 34’s were rejected. Write a good essay. In you letters of rec ask the teacher/GC to mention that you are particularly interested in experiential learning/coop.
