So I've applied to Northwestern ED. Do I have a shot at NU? I know My SAT IIs are kind of average/on the low side and my AP scores are absolutely horrendous, but is it possible for me to get accepted? Thanks. I'm a Korean American living in an upper middle class area.

-I only sent in one teacher recommendation, but I'm absolutely certain that it is VERY good. The teacher even said she "raved" about me.
-I feel that my essay is very strong. It's unique and different, has a strong voice, and shows the colleges my character.
-I applied for need based financial aid, which I heard for NU is suicide =/ I told my parents that I thought it might be better not to apply for need based financial aid, but they insisted it doesn't matter so I don't know.

SATS
-SAT I: 2020 Super Scored/Combined (700 CR, 660 Math, 660 Writing)
-SAT II United States History: 620

AP TESTS
-AP European History: 3
-AP United States History: 3
-AP Literature: 2
-AP Chemistry: 1
-AP Biology: 1

*Note: I did terrible on my AP tests because I got pneumonia and science is just not my calling/subject. Also, my counselors said that it would be worse if I didn't take the AP test as that would be suspicious than to take an AP class and not take the AP test for that class, so I don't exactly know what's up.

Your scores aren’t the greatest and may hurt you but you have a great GPA that may balance it out. If you show passion and initiative in a single subject I think you have a decent shot. Maybe a low reach/ high match.

I dont think your grades or test scores are good enough to get you in early. I have a friend who has amazing scores and grades (not to say yours arent) and she is REALLY nervous. also they only take like 2% out of state.

I dont know if your out of state or not, but its A LOT harder to get in if you are.

You have a good SAT I and your GPA is decent, I think they’ll really like the fact that you took 8 classes outside of school, they want to see that you’ve challenged yourself.

And yeah, I’m out of state, but I’ve actually heard the opposite argued that it’s easier to get in if you’re OUT of state because NU can charge more for like room and board and stuff. But, I don’t know.

@Lefleur: Yeah, I know. Cuz some parts of my profile are good and some are pretty decent, but I’m really worried about my SAT IIs and AP tests…

I was only gonna take AP tests for the subjects I knew I could pass (and study those with more diligence), but my counselors insisted that it is better to take AP tests for classes I took and fail than to not take them at all so blah…

ouch I think you’re grades will hurt you though your ECs may compensate for that. I’d say mid reach just because of the scores. Hm math II is below average…that’s what bugs me. Did you report your AP scores? Cause I think you’re better off not reporting them. Otherwise, write your essays well and show your uniqueness in them. Good luck [I’d say 30% chance in ED]

@CollegeAddiction: Thanks, I appreciate it. Yeah, my mentor also told me that he thinks I have about a 30% chance of getting in, which isn’t all that great but at least I have some hope lol. Yeah,my math II is really weak blah aaaahhhh crap. I reported all my AP scores…I was going to just report the ones I passed, but I decided to turn them all in with an explanation that I was sick, and that science is something I know for sure I don’t want to pursue. I think my essays were pretty unique though. Thanks for your insight.
