Essays:

Common App Essay: Very Good IMO (My AP Lit Teacher, Counselor, Tutor, Mom, Dad, and friends have all said it is really good) It is about my near fatal diagnosis with type one diabetes where my blood sugar was in the 800s where a lot of people go into comas, and how at first it was tough for me and how i often doubted myself, but with the support of family and the inspiration of my dad’s immigration to cuba and the cuban values he taught me, i never gave up. I turned it into an asset, volunteering, running, and participating in a lot of events to help the type one diabetes community.

Why NU Essay?: Also good on all accounts. Talked about my visit to Northwester, as well as specific opportunities MEdill Offers and how journalism is my love and passion, also talked about a specific professor who talked to me on my tour of the school, I also talked about a couple alumni who showcased the united wildcat family that i wanna be a part of.

Letters of Rec:

One from my Physics Honors Teacher: I picked her because she is insanely nice person, and i have a good relationship with her. Although it was not my strongest class due to the fact physics relies a lot on sensory issues, which do not get along with my dysgraphia, I still ended up with a B+ in the class.

One from My AP Gov Teacher: She is a very talkative person who knows my interest in politics and knows about my ECs in that area.

One from my counselor who i also have a good relationship with.

Also side note: The admissions rep for Miami, also graduated from the Journalism school, and when he visited my school i asked him questions about it, and i kept in touch through email so i have a good relationship with him. I think.

I think you have a pretty good shot at getting in. Your unweighted GPA is a little low, so your test scores will probably play a big factor in your desicion (however, based on your AP scores, your test scores are probably good). Your volunteer work and internships will probably work for you, and your EC’s seem strong. The connections you have made will probably play a big part in your admission. I think you have a good chance!

Thank You for the constructive feedback! By the way i included my SAT score of a 2070 on the post which converts to a 1450 to the new sat.

Yeah, don’t get too cocky, but I think you’ll get in.

Haha trust me, with Northwestern, I am not going to get cocky. I hope you get in as well, from your previous post you like you will probably get in.

This website says a 2070 is a 1380, which is definitely low for NU. http://blog.prepscholar.com/sat-percentiles-high-precision-2016

It says 1450 on the college board

650 Writing 710 Math 710 Writing

I don’t know, man. Other websites also say a 2070 is a 1380, but go with CollegeBoard I guess. However, both a 2070 and a 1380 are 96th percentile it looks like. I’m not sure what else goes into the equivalency equation. If your score is in the 96th percentile, it may be on the lower end, but people definitely get in with that score.

Actually, this document from CollegeBoard says 2070 is 95th: https://secure-media.collegeboard.org/digitalServices/pdf/sat/sat-percentile-ranks-composite-crit-reading-math-writing-2015.pdf

A 1450 on the new exam is 99th percentile; a 1380 is 96th. Not sure how adcoms will interpret it.
