Chance me for Northwestern, UChicago and Brown! Will chance back :p

This is a re-post; I did not get too many comments on the other post and the discussion was going off topic..

I am an international applicant from Asia..

I'm especially worried about what the university will think of my "gap year" between high school graduation and the application this year..
Anyways, chance me please!!

Northwestern should be in your range. As for the other two no one here can really say yes or no but I think they probably a reach due to your weak ECs. But your scores are in range, kill your essay and you stand a chance.

Chance me?

Thanks for the comment; I chanced you back!

Your grades are definitively up to par and your ec’s are good but nothing that really POPs. However, I think the fact that you’re an international applicant helps - colleges are always looking for chances to claim they have a lot of diversity. Your a senior this year right? I definitively think that you’ll still be able to do extra things that’ll make you more appealing. So I’d say you have a good chance at getting in to one of those schools; especially if you kill the essay.

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1370762-chance-ivy-suggestions.html</a></p>

By the way - I’m slightly curious on the subject of research and was wondering how you found the contest for your research paper contest. Did a teacher tell you about it or did you find out about it yourself?

Thanks for your comment.
Being an international applicant would help sometimes, but I am from one of these countries: China, India, Korea, Singapore…
There are so many applicants from the country I am applying from;
And yes, I would have to put my hopes in the essays if I want to be a competitive applicant.

The subject of my research is not exactly related to the major I will be applying for, but it is part of what shows that I have had interests in and explored through various fields in high school to find what I truly liked. (to put it in a good way)

And about the contest, I heard from my friends about it and participated.

bumpity bumpity bumpbumpbump

Best of luck. Here’s just a few things I get from your application:

1) Your gap year should not hurt your chances at all. Most colleges will put on their websites that they are fine with students taking a gap year because of the enriching experience that can come from it.

2) You are right – your weakest point is your extracurriculars. However, I think you should be fine; your internships in particular are good.

3) You have great grades and test scores. I think these will really go a long way in getting you in.

It’s difficult to chance international applicants, because so much of college admission offices’ decisions are based off of the individual circumstances of an applicant (including where you live) and the amount of opportunities available to that student, and I am unfamiliar with the educational/extracurricular activities throughout Asia. However, with your scores, I’d be very surprised if you didn’t make it into at least one of the colleges you mentioned. Good luck!

I’d appreciate a chance back at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1368810-chanes-hys-among-others-thanks.html</a> if you have the time. Thanks! :)
