I am currently a junior. I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA. I currently have an ACT of 31(31 Eng, 33 Math, 31 Reading, 27 Science, 10 Writing). I have taken the most rigorous courses available at my school, though many are honors and not AP because of what my school offers. My ECS are: Quizbowl(captain since Freshman Year), Student Council(Committee Coordinator), SADD Club(Treasurer), NHS, Improv, Drama(Plays/Musical) Painting(Job), Service(Food Packaging, Toy Sorting, Blood Drives, Help out Seniors, etc), Youth Basketball Score Keeper/Statitician(Job), Campus Ministry, Film Club..

First thought is there is some moderate-major grade inflation going on at your school and your ACT is too low. I’m gonna say no to both.

What do you mean grade inflation? I’m smart and work hard for my 4.0.

As in you have perfect grades but your ACT is really low. Either your school isn’t very rigorous (which is what colleges will assume) or you’re a naturally bad test taker…

My ACT isn’t low it’s in the 97% for the country.

I don’t know why you’re being so defensive. Obviously it is not low for the entire country, but the average student doesn’t apply to these schools.

I’m not disagreeing with you that these schools are tough to get into, but I am disagreeing that a 31 is a “really low” score and that I’m an “average student” If I was average I would have a 21 on the ACT(that is the average). I would have been fine if you had just said that I wouldn’t get in, but then you went on to insult my intelligence. That’s why I’m defensive.

All of my comments have been in the context of the schools you are applying to. That’s what you wanted when you made this thread.

No, I did not want to be insulted. My scores and GPA are not bad in the context of these schools. Don’t think I haven’t done my research. My GPA is clearly as high as it can be, and my 31 falls right in line with ACT averages for these schools.

A 31 puts you in the 25th percentile for Chicago, which is hardly right in line with the average.

Either way, I’m happy that your confident. Come back in a year with your results and I’ll be the first to congratulate you.

Alright, I’ve always been a confident person. I’m hoping to get in and even improve my ACTS. I never really studie or took a class for them so…anyway. I’m glad we had this discussion it really opened my eyes. Just out of curiosity, what college do you go to/are hoping to go to?

I dunno what CSIHSIS is talking about. Plenty of people have high GPAs and low test scores or vice versa. For ND and Chicago, your score is a bit on the low side but it is not far below average. I would say thats your weakness because the rest of your application is decent. 31 is not a bad score at all.

letjustin. Thank you! You made me smile! Truly! I do hope to get my scores up. I believe that I could probably get it up to a 33 at most. June test date here I come!
