Essays:
I will make a convincing argument for why my current institution cannot provide me with the resources and alumni I need to be successful and pursue the career field I intend to. I’ll site some specific programs and unique things about each school that will show interest and knowledge of each school.
I understand the chances of getting into Harvard & Yale are astronomical, so no need to remind me. Just applying for the heck of it.
Cheers, let me know if you want me to chance you back & I will!
@boolaHI I understand the difference in admission rates between transfers and first yeas. However, every school I listed admits a few dozen students in each applicant cycle. I am looking for a more informed opinion, comparing me with other transfer applicants and where people think I stack up. But thanks anyways.
Two items: the largest represented students at Ivy plus schools as successful transfers are from other Ivy plus schools, and the most compelling reason for transfer (assuming you have the grades/scores otherwise) is that your present insitution does not offer a major, that is present at the transfering institution. Better contacts/alumni or resources, are not considered legitimate reasons for transfer–and I would not make that a part of my transfer application. I am giving you a very informed opinion as far as Y is concerned, as I was formerly held an academic position with the school, and my D is also a current student.
@boolaHI I’ve read over the stats of 100+ applicants who were all accepted to at least one of the schools I listed above, a majority of them carried over the same major as their previous institution. The variety of majors offered amongst the top 50 schools in the U.S are pretty even, so I disagree with you on that playing a deciding factor in admission. You bring up a good point about the weight of why you want to transfer and how it affects admissions, and I want to reassure you that those needs for me go far beyond alumni/connections. But yes, Yale is probably an uphill battle just like Harvard and Columbia. I’m more interested in my chances of getting into more obtainable schools for transfers: USC, Cornell, Nu – which have slightly more favorable admission rates. But thank you for your insight.
Transfers also include recruited athletes and coaches have a lot of pull on transfers (decreasing your chances). With such low statistics on transfers, all top 30 schools are super reaches. Apply hoping for the best but expect the worst. With 34 or higher ACT’s and your great gpa you are viable transfer but it’s like musical chairs and takes some luck. Good luck!
