Schools

Here is my current list for colleges: What schools may seem too out of reach or comfortable within my stats? I know that the UC Nursing schools (UCLA and UCI) are definitely very competitive, and right now I am looking forward for target schools. Any help is so appreciated!

Reaches:
University of Pennsylvania
Georgetown University
UCLA
UC Irvine
CSU Fullerton

Target:
University of San Francisco
University of Pittsburgh
Seattle U
Case Western Reserve University (middle of target and reach)

Safety
University of Portland
U of Hawaii Manoa
Purdue West Lafayette (is this a safety?)

I am definitely looking into more target and safety schools with my stats. Thank you everyone for being so supportive along this stressful process! any help is amazing, thank you!

Thank you all!

You do know that all the UC’s and CSUs are test blind for this admission cycle? You might want to add Arizona State as a target school just be aware you have to maintain a competitive GPA (3.5) to remain in the program if admitted directly as a Freshman.

Although another reach but as a CA resident, SDSU should be on your list.

Hi! Thank you so much for your response. I totally forgot to put SDSU on here, but SDSU is a reach! I will definitely look into ASU, thank you!

Unless I’m missing something, Fullerton is not a reach. I don’t see Penn and Gtown as possible - however, it never hurts to try. CWRU should move up to reach.

Purdue move up to Target.

So you have money saved up - but why not feed reasonably priced schools because they give big merit - and you have CSUF…but why not U of A or ASU.

Odd to me you have mainly medium and big schools - so why U of Portland?

You’ll certainly have opportunity with this list - including some merit opportunities - although not likely at Purdue or Pitt.

Good luck.

@tsbna44: Only about 40 students are admitted directly for the Freshman BSN program each Fall semester out of thousands of applicants. That is why it is a Reach school for Nursing as a Freshman applicant.

Consider Loyola, Marquette or any of the other Jesuit nursing programs.

good to know -

Pay attention to whether nursing at each school is:

  1. Direct admit where weed out later is not so heavy (e.g. UCI).
  2. Direct admit with heavy weed out later (e.g. ASU).
  3. Pre nursing with less difficult secondary admission later.
  4. Pre nursing with more difficult secondary admission later.

Nursing will generally be more competitive for frosh admission than the school generally, particularly for direct admit.

Another path is community college ADN / RN followed by RN->BSN at a four year school.
