I’m a high school senior at a private school. NYU and BU are my dream schools, but I think my stats are too low. I’m hoping to major in environmental science/studies with a minor in global policy.
I’m going to apply ED2 to NYU, and take the ACT again in December to hopefully raise my score.
ACT: 30 composite (my super score is also 30)
GPA: unweighted is a 3.57
APs: I took Bio and Lang junior year and got a 3 on both exams, currently taking Lit, Statistics, Environmental Science, and French
Extracurriculars: ran varsity cross country, youth soccer coach, soccer referee, intern at a local environmental organization, model UN, president of french club, NHS, tutor middle schoolers, FBLA
Hm. My daughter got into NYU ED last year with similar stats, but she had more APs (one 4 the rest 5s) on her app. Her school is known for fairly harsh grading, and the school profile would have shown that. Her stats are at the low end compared to her classmates at NYU. (I think she knocked the ball out the park on her essays and had something particular to bring to the college too, that is not easily replicated). So - I’d say you have a chance, but I’m not sure it’s more likely than not, partly dependent on how your school grades too.
Btw, NYU only gives credit for APs with scores of 4 or 5. I’m not sure how or if that affects how they assess for admissions, but if you were hoping to use APs for college credit there is an FYI for you.
