Chance me for NYU Film?

NYU Tisch is my top choice and I have a 3.541 GPA with a 4.9 unweighted. Ive taken 4 AP classes and have about 650 hours of community service. I got a 1950 on the SAT but still havent taken the ACT yet. Also, is early decision a smart choice? Thanks so much.

Tisch admission is heavly weighted towards the artistic evaluation. There is very little anybody on this forum can advise you regarding that.

NYU/Tisch School of Film might have the lowest acceptance rate of any college in the country. I think it’s less than 1%. They take applicants’ academic records into account, and your stats appear adequate, but perfect scores and grades won’t help you at all if you don’t have a great portfolio. If you’re sure you want to go there, and think that your family can afford it, then you should probably start assembling materials for Early Decision. Other top-notch film schools include USC and Emerson, but they are also highly selective. If you are serious about Film, then also look into Temple, UNC-Wilmington, and - as a safety - Columbia College Chicago. CCC has a very impressive sound-stage.

Well I think you’re alright in terms of GPA and SAT scores. But think of it this way, yeah you are competing against some insanely smart kids. But you are also competing against some extremely artistic kids who have these portfolios that are amazing. What is your work like? What have you done? Have you done enough, have you REALLY presented yourself as the filmmaker you really think you are? Keep in mind that they do not only look for talent, but potential is considered. Do you have certain ideas that you have captured in your work? Perhaps a style that distinguishes you from the other applicants? I think you posted this on the wrong forum. You should really speak to people who have applied and/or have been accepted. Your portfolio is key. Not saying that anyone with a good portfolio can get in with a 2.9 GPA.

My D is just finishing her first year at Tisch/film. I think they told her class that the acceptance rate was 4% last year.
Solid SATs, grades and good recs are important. Spend a lot of time on your essays and portfolio. They do not have EA only ED.
Other good film schools, IMO, are USC, SVA, Chapman, Emerson and RISD.
