Chance me for NYU, please?

Hi, I am currently a junior at Beverly Hills High School, CA, and very interested in going NYU, especially Stern in future. USC will be my second choice. I want to major Marketing specifically and get MBA degree. I am also planning to apply for UCLA, UCB, and UCSD as well.

-GPA: 3.9 UW, but I assume 3.8 UW after senior year.

-SAT: 1940(510,750,680(8)), taking in June again.

-SAT II: taking US History and Math 1 in May.

-APs: AP Language, AP US History, and AP Chemistry

-In senior year: AP Physics, AP Gov/Econ, AP Literature, AP Calculas AB, AP Comp. Gov. and perhaps AP Stat (should I?)

-School representative delegate to West Los Angeles Red Cross Youth Corps District General Meeting.

-Technology Club president, American Red Cross Club secretary, and KPOP Club treasurer.

-Will be American Red Cross Club president next year.

-Part of Korean Club and Photography Club.

-Internship in CPA office during summer.

-Staff writer and social media director of school online newspaper, beverlyhighlights.com.

-Peer tutoring for year after school at school.

-DJing as hobby, planning to create YouTube channel this summer.

-Planning to start a website business this summer.

-Might attend "LeadAmerica Business & Entrepreneur Conference" in Stanford this summer. Is this worth going?

-Planning to do more extracurricular activities, if you have any recommendation, please let me know.

-3 years in California Scholarship Federation, probably 1 more year in senior year.

-1 year in National Honor Society, probably 1 more year in senior year.

-About 40 hours of community service hours so far.

-Non-US citizen, Korean in US with E2 visa, planning to change to F1 next year.

-Moved to US in 2009 fall semester in my freshman year, started EL(ESL) course in my first semester. Regular English in my second semester.

-Speaking Korean, English and Chinese.

-Lived in China for 1 year and 6 months.

-Planning to take Chinese HSK exam, similar to TOEFL in english.

-First generation of attending American college.

-I am slightly concerned about financial issue, but not necessary to attend school.

-Finance is not my biggest concern. I am more concerned about my academics and extracurricular activities.

-How should I improve my chance of going NYU? I appreciate your help.

Great GPA and lots of APs.

I’d bring up the SATs, though. Especially math/reading.

(Although I had a 3.54 and 1900 and got in, but I went for Music Technology, so I had music help me out)

Overall your SAT is pretty good but definitely improve the 520(i got in with a 620 reading)…and really try to keep that GPA high to 3.9, everything thing else seems good. And AP Stat will look good for Stern.

Improve your SAT to 2150+ would give you a huge boost ( try getting 800 in math, Stern loves math). 40 hours of community service is weak, try adding a lot more and consider perhaps getting an internship? You took a lot of APs that’s great but what about the AP exam scores? those matters the most.

Don’t take AP stats, it’s useless Stern makes you retake it anyways. Take Calc BC rather than wasting time on Stats. Also make sure you get a 5 in any Science ap exams. It’ll help you skip a general ed requirement class ( Nat science).

Overall you don’t have much that stands out but if you do well on the APs and pull up your SAT i think you’ll be good to go. Get great recommendation letters and don’t write vague and general essays on your application. Zap me if you have any more questions. GOOD LUCK!!! :D
