<p>I want to major in Computer Science</p>

<p>GPA:
2.71 unweighted
3.88 weighted</p>

<p>SAT: 1900 (CR: 600 Math: 700 Writing: 600) [planning on retaking]</p>

<p>100 hours volunteer work
debate club
FIRST FTC robotics team (went to worlds if that means anything)
recreational water polo
recreational swimming
Participated in NYU-Poly's CSAW
President of Odyssey of the Mind Club
Hispanic race (if that means anything)</p>

<p>Went to a magnet school, ranked 6th in NJ, took college classes in business for one semester and computer engineering all 4 years of school. </p>

<p>My worst grades are in Engineering (I realize that I want to major in this field, but the course covered computer hardware and software, with emphasis on hardware. I want to do programming, which I excelled at, but unfortunately this didn't do my GPA too much good)</p>

<p>If you don't think I get in, would I have a chance at the General Studies program? I'm willing to enroll in that as well if that's my only option. Also, if I'm looking to do Computer Science in NYC/Chicago only, what're some good schools that would be a good fit for me?</p>

<p>Honestly the Difference between the UW and W GPA is what kills you it shows you have the initative to take the harder classes, but you can’t excel in them. This looks bad, i’d say a super reach or a flat out no, sorry.</p>

<p>It’s really that bad, huh. Do you think it would help if I took the computer science AP? It’s programming, so I’m confident I can do well at that.</p>

<p>I say you have some of a chance. though, being called NYU school of engineering definitely will be different admissions process in the Fall. And i dont even know if they will keep the general studies program in the Fall after the merger process.</p>

<p>Thanks for the help so far guys. @lilmelonred, when exactly is that merger happening? Is that going to happen by the fall for sure?</p>

<p>The merge is already happening but it will be completed in 2014. They are migrating to the NYU mobile App this summer and students already can take classes and minor at other NYU schools for these past years… last year, they started to make Poly students take NYU CAS writing/ english courses. In the fall, HS seniors who want to study at NYU Poly or (NYU school of engineering) will have to apply using the NYU application.</p>

<p>Definately a reach, your test scores could potentially make up for a low gpa. Also, if your grades are increasing from freshman year to now, low grades to generally average or high grades, then the improvement looks great.</p>
