Class rank: I’m #4 / about 400 students
New SAT: 1290/ 1600 I retook the SAT this month and im waiting for my score. I’m praying that I got atleast a 1350-1450
ACT: 28
AP Scores: 4 on Chemistry and U.S History
Senior Year Schedule: AP calc ab, AP Us GoPo, business and entrepreneurship honors, journalism 5 honors, journalism 6 honors, AP Psychology
I have taken 5 AP courses, 4 Dual enrollment classes through a local college, and the rest honors
Community service : I’ll have atleast 100+ hours by the end of the year
I volunteer through the American cancer society, I was a volunteer at a local thrift store that specializes in charity donations, I volunteer at my school running concession stands at athletic events
Leadership: Editor on the yearbook committee, Vice President of National English Honor Society, Historian of Interact , Chosen to represent my school at the Seminar For tomorrow’s leaders (only about 100 are chosen throughout the state) Team Leader for Relay for Life
Extracurricular: National Honor Society , interact, national English honor society, junior varsity volleyball, girls varsity weightlifting, interact, I work at culver’s , I was an intern at a local law firm , yearbook member
Honors : student of the month , all A honor roll (all 4 years) , 1st place in photography competition , 1st in districts for weightlifting, 15th in the state for weightlifting , honorable mention at school science fair
Extra info: I was born in Africa, 3 years after moving here both of my parents died and I was adopted. I live in a single family home where the income is less than 20,000 a year.
First of all, your GPA is amazing, especially considering the difficult courses you have taken. Your volunteer hours are also fantastic and all of your ECs are actually goals. Your background will give you a really compelling essay, and overall, it is amazing to see all you have achieved! That being said, the ACT score would be great to bump up jusssttt a little for top tier schools like NYU and Penn. They are stretches for just about anyone, but, what most people don’t realize is that they don’t only care about stats, you have a lottttt of stuff going for you. Good luck in the rest of your college search, I think you have a fighting chance at all three schools!
OK honestly what skatergirls27 said… YES. Its so nice to actually see supportive comments on people’s threads and not just concerned about stats and kicking people down. Im also applying right around now and have similar stats and attributes as you, so I can attest to the fact that its very evident youve worked extrememly hard in highschool and colleges will see that (regardless of the fact that your scores may be “a little below average”). Remember how an average is calculated— it means people below the average also got in, so dont be scared by numbers! I think you have a great shot at these schools. Whatever happens, it will be for the best. Good luck!!!
Thank you for your comment, and I just received my sat score and was able to raise it to a 1430 so hopefully that improved my chance
The outlier is UPenn. I’d say you were a “likely” admit to the other colleges. For UPenn, I’d say you were a “probable” as it really depends on the applicant pool. If you are admitted to all the colleges, UPenn will almost certainly offer you the best financial aid.
