Chance me for NYU

Before I post my classes/grades throughout my three years, I just want to say that I have taken all of the highest classes possible, until this year when I chose regular physics over AP Physics. Also, I was ranked in the top 10% of my class.

Freshman Year (Not too proud of my grades)
- Biology Honors (B+)
- Geometry Honors (B)
- Global History I (A)
- Literature & Comp. (B)
- Spanish 3 (A+)

Clay/Innov Forms (A)

Word XP (A+)

PE/Health (A+)

Sophomore Year
- Algebra II Honors (B)
- Chemistry Honors (A-)
- Global History II Honors (A-)
- Spanish 4 Honors (A)
- World Lit Honors (A-)

Bake Shop (A+)

Health (A-)

P.E. (A)

Junior Year
- Americ. Lit Honors (A-)
- AP Spanish 5 (A-)
- AP US History (B+)
- Physics (A-)
- Pre-Calculus Honors (A-)

Digital Photography (A+)

On Your Own (A+)

Health (A)

P.E. (A)

Senior Classes (Next Year)
- AP Biology
- AP Literature
- AP Calculus (AB)
- AP Macroeconomics
- Spanish 6 Honors
- Civics & Gov't (Required)

GPA: 3.66 UNWEIGHTED (4.0 weighted) as of sophomore year, not sure if it will increase as of this year.
ACT: 27, but I'm hoping for a 30+ this time around in September (I'm studying ALOT already)

Applying early decision I I think.

Extracurriculars:
- Varsity Sailing (4 years)
- JV Cross Country (4 years)
- Indoor Track & Field (1 year)
- Managing Editor for School Newspaper (have also been online editor, features editor, and sports editor) (4 years)
- Co-founder of Hospital Donation Club for Children (2 years)
- Safe Rides (Driver/dispatcher) (I think I might be organizer of it this year)
- Peer Advocates (3 years)
- Reach Out (Freshmen orientation) (2 years)
- Yearbook Club (2 years)
- Stage Crew (2 years)
- Help out at a soup kitchen for my church monthly
- Habitat for Humanity
- Did a journalism program at Yale for a week in the summer

There's definitely more, but to be honest I can't think of them. On a side note, we have a family friend whose entire family for many generations have attended NYU. This man donates large sums of $ to the school and I plan on using him somehow in my application to boost my chances. I've also visited the school 3 times-went on the tour, etc.

Other schools I'm thinking about
- USC
- Tufts
- Haverford
- Villanova
- Northeastern
- Univ. of Florida
- BC
- Northwestern (far reach-but for their journalism program)

I know the 50th percent of NYU acceptance have an ACT range of 29-31, but I'm REALLY aiming for a 31/32, not only for just NYU, but for the other schools I'm applying to. Feel free to tell me how my chances are there.

I’ll chance you at 31.

NWU Medill: Reach
UF: High match
NYU ED: Match
Tufts: Reach
USC Annenberg: High match
BC: Match/High match
NEU: Match
Haverford: Reach
Villanova: Low match/Match

Might want to consider UMO as a safety if journalism is your thing.

@Catria - Thanks! Seems to be around the same level my college planner told me. By any chance are there any tips you can give me on helping my application towards NWU and Haverford?

There’s nothing wrong with your application, but both Haverford and NWU admit about 15% of their applicant pools so they’re both reaches regardless of the student.

@Catria - Haverford is actually ~24% and I think NWU is around ~12%. Still, though, definitely reaches. Thanks.

EDIT: NWU is actually more ~14% so you were correct haha

USC: low reach

Tufts: reach

Haverford: low reach

Villanova: match

Northeastern: match

Univ. of Florida: low match

BC: high match

Northwestern: reach

Please disregard my last UF verdict: I chanced you for UF at 27.

UF: Low match/Match

Any more? Thanks

Are you applying to Stern? if u bring it up to a 30 or 31…
NYU: match
UF match
Tufts reach
USC low reach
Northeastern safety
BC low reach
Northwestern, if you want you should ED to better your chances
PLEASE CHANCE ME

Can anyone update my chances?

 • I’m taking AP Calculus BC by the way
 • To add to my extracurriculars, I’m an organizer (highest position) for a safe rides program in my town that I’ve been doing for all four years of high school.

Really hoping NYU ED1 that I will get in! I’m a little nervous because as of now I only have a 27 ACT superscored, waiting for September’s scores (not sure how I did :/). Also taking the SAT for the last time tomorrow…

Thanks!!

BUMP! More opinions please!

UPDATE: Superscore, 28 on the ACT. This is just below their range of a 29-30 (middle 50%) so let’s hope that helps more than a 27.

Really shooting for NYU – help out please!

Hi! I need more replies please.

Do you think with my stats (28 ACT/3.66 GPA) that I might get LSP’ed from CAS?

UF: High match
NYU: Reach
Tufts: Reach
Haverford: Reach
NWU Medill: Reach
USC: Reach
NEU: High match
BC: Reach

^Everyone is saying NYU is a match, how do you say its a reach? I really think it’s in my range from multiple sourcing.

More replies please?

Your ECs have a lot of variety and range, but there’s not one that really stands out. Like if you’re interested in journalism it would have been great to see “editor-in-chief” instead of managing editor. Your hospital donation club kind of makes up for that though. And I’m not sure if your family friend connection would help since this person isn’t actually in your family. Assuming you get your goal ACT score and have a great essay, it’s a match. Good luck! Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1564116-chance-me-university-southern-california.html#post16467601

^I’m actually able to put down I’m the Editor-In-Chief, but I’m not going for a journalism major.

Sure I’ll chance you.

More please!

Update: 1910 on SATs. How do people feel about my chances for NYU?
