Chance me for Oxford PPE

I'm a student in attending a top private school in Asia (by top I mean global).
I've recently taken an interest in Oxford PPE and I'd like to see what CC has to say.

· Debate - First Place in Nationals, current National Team Pool
· Mock Trial - First Place in Nationals with Honorable Mention, Regional representative for US Nationals
· Writing - many big and small awards, reporter for National Youth Policy Institute, editor of largest teenage weekly in country
· Internship at largest law firm in Asia
· Co-founder of National Moot Court Competition
· President of school Broadcasting Club
· Vice-president of school volunteer club (teaching unprivileged children English--I've been doing this for almost three years now for hundreds of hours)
· Volunteered to clean up an oil spill
· Filmed a promotion video for a child care center in Africa

PS and Recs

PS: Assume that the topic is extremely unique, relevant to the major of choice, and well written.
Recs: Assume they are the best from the school.

Anything else?

As a public speaker, I don't think I'll have any stammering-moments on the interview. As an attorney in mock trial who has been solving LSAT practice tests to learn/practice logical reasoning, I don't think I'll get too many questions wrong on the TSA. I guess the two things I'm concerned most about are 1) my overall GPA (my freshman grades were embarrassingly low) and 2) my non-academic activities, on how they might portray me as a student who isn't too focused on academics (the list above is actually a condensed version).

I always thought kids who raised their information here sounded a bit supercilious, seeking confirmation of their superiority. That's probably why many people in the CC gave negative responses when those kids ask whether they're good enough for top schools. I'm not asking if I'm good enough (or even if I'm good at all)--all I'm here for is information that may help me formulate a better application form.

For those who know, attend, or have graduated Oxford PPE, I'd like to hear your opinions.

Honestly, just insane…
I don’t know anything about UK schools except that they focus mostly on standardized tests. With SAT and AP like that, I don’t know how u can’t get in.

As a side note, may I ask which school u from? just curious

Please DON’T!!!

You are already “extemely unique”. The personal statement is supposed to be about YOU and why you want to study PPE. It is adviseable to begin “I would like to study PPE because” and then discuss why you like the subject. If you write some long winded story (particularly a sob story or “personal journey”) you are likely to come across as either crazy or as someone with no interest in PPE (or an applicant who would place too much strain on the Psychiatric care department)

It doesn’t matter if you do, and it as well to be humble, natural and unconceited.

unimportant compared to APs. They don’t usually consider much before the age of 16 (for UK students they consider GCSE grades which are take in year 11, which is year 10 of the US system, and nothing before that)

That’s ok, because you’re NOT going to write about them, are you? ECs are utterly ireelevant unless related to your course of study. It says this on the Oxford web-site, in the FAQs about applying. Feel free to check. I would mention debate and maybe mock trial (but prepare your answer for when they ask why you are not applying for Law).

wow u make me feel like a disgrace to Asians -.-

i think you have a good chance at getting in
have u thought of applying to harvard or yale?

thanks everyone! I received an unconditional offer to read PPE next year : )

maruhan2 -> My school discourages displaying its name online :frowning: If you’re still curious, I guess I can send you an email if you’d like.

cupcake -> thanks so much for your detailed response! it helped a lot in writing my PS.

izy2492 -> haha. trust me- as an Asian who sucks in his own language & math, I’m definitely not someone who should be seen as a good example  I’m not applying to Yale (obv. doubt I’d get in considering the quality of kids they take from my country), but I’m putting in Harvard, just so I can look back 20 years from now and not regret :)

Well done!

Please come back next year and share your experience with new applicants.
