Leadership:
Leadership Program

  • Unique to my school, basically a leadership program that is embedded into the curriculum, with several different leadership events designed to train and test you team work capabilities, how to lead under pressure, and how to use these leadership skills in everyday life. Those who prove themselves of being a great leader by being nominated, and completing 3 different phases of training are named “Senior Leader”, which aid in mentoring the underclassmen and teaching them leadership skills (I am a Senior Leader)

Team Captain of Swim & Track and Field

  • I work along side the coaches to help mentor mainly the underclassmen, as well as organize my team mates during meets (making sure everyone is doing okay, hydrated, know where and when their next race is etc.).

Certified Trainer at Chick-Fil-A

  • Train around 2 new hires every week, as well as mentor and instruct my team on new/updated guidelines. I also am in charge of the store if the manager is not present (called in sick, delivering an order etc.) I also come up with ways with the directors on how to improve the store.

Bible Study

  • I lead a Bible study for middle school students once a week

Director of the spotlights for both my school’s productions: Peter Pan and Snow White

Volunteer Work/Community Service:

Clocked in over 150 hours currently

Active member of National Honors Society

I have been on a week-long mission trip to South Dakota, where I served the missionaries there as well as the people on the reservation there

I will also be going on another Mission Trip next year to South America

Awards/Projects:
JREX- Completed
The Jrex(Junior Research Exhibition) is an extensive research projects where Juniors do research a controversial topic that is prevalent in today’s world. They must report their findings in a 15 page essay, as well as present their findings in front of an audience and experts towards the end of the year, where the expert panelists will then listen and ask you questions on your presentation

Principle’s List 2 years in a row (hoping for 3 and 4 years in a row)

Lettered in both Varsity Swim and Track

Thank you for reading!

My son got accepted two years ago with slightly lower gpa and 1400 sat. He has similar stats otherwise. Are you in state or OOS? He was OOS and got accepted for chemical engineering. He ended up going elsewhere because of costs considerations. I’d personally say your chances are good.

Yes, I am out of state

If your user name is your real name, then you should change your user name. The word “confidential” is in the name of the web site after all!

Your GPA is really good. You SAT should be okay for Penn State. I think that your chances are pretty good. Whether you will be able to afford it I have no idea. Have you run the NPC?

Are you also applying to in-state universities, and do you have an ABET accredited in-state option?

I think your chances are good being OOS.

The next thing is can you afford it? Penn State is not known for giving out much money at all.

Its a great school and I work with numerous mechanical engineers that went there. I’ll say from what I’ve seen the alumni really do look out for one another.

Thank you, yes I do have an option for in state, but I hope I get a 1400+ on the sat that comes out wednesday to up my chances

Penn State engineering is not a guaranteed admit. You must meet GPA requirements. I would look at direct admit engineering programs first.

If you were in-state I’d say your odds are very good. I’ve known kids from our HS with lower stats get main campus. It used to be 2/3 weighting on grades and 1/3 on test scores. Not sure about OOS but I would imagine competitive.
