<p>Get your GPA up. 2/3 of the admission decision at PSU is based on uw GPA. 60k+ hs students apply to Penn State every year so the admissions office gets really busy. ECs are fine. It’s actually harder to apply since you are not in-state. University Park is usually a lock if you have a 1750+ SAT and 3.5+ GPA for in-state students. Out-state students is a bit higher for a lock. I think if you get your SATs to 1850+ with a 3.7uw, University Park is a lock for you. </p>
<p>Penn State was my 2nd choice school and planned to attend there if I got rejected to American. I was planning to do the 2+2 program starting at the Altoona campus since I wasn’t ready for a large campus feel at University Park. It’s like a 45 minute drive in between, so you can go there on weekends to visit friends, hangout with your fraternity, and attend football games. I recommend doing that if you are not ready for the large University Park feel and a handful of professors teach at both campuses. </p>
<p>I don’t know if applications numbers dropped after the Jerry Sandusky scandal, but the Penn State community is one large family. I grew up in a community in which many people have some ties with the university. One parent I know just joined the board of trustees. The alumni connections are huge. Even college students like me who don’t attend Penn State still support the Nittany Lions and know the alma mater and fight song by heart. </p>
<p>I don’t attend Penn State but I still consider myself as part of the community since I grew up in it. You’ll get in with your credentials, but you need to bring your gpa up to 3.7 and SAT 1800 to enter University Park for freshman year. Another idea you should consider is starting in the summer before freshman year at University Park to lessen the workload. Your chances for admission at UP are much higher if you do that.</p>
