Already got accepted to SAS, just waiting on Pharmacy.

Your SAT is way too low…I applied to pharmacy last year with these stats.

SAT: 2270/2400 (800 math, 800 writing, 630 reading)
SAT II: 800 Math IIC, 760 Chemistry, 800 Biology (M)

Extracurricular: robotics captain - state/national championship, 3 years of all-state band, 3 years of hospital volunteering, USA chemistry olympiad semifinalist, 2 years of research experience, track

Courses Taken: AP chem, AP bio, AP US, AP euro, AP lang, AP stat, AP psych, BC calc, and a bunch of other honors courses

GPA: 3.8/4.0

Did I get in? No. I think it was my GPA that brought me down. I still think I should have gotten in considering the fact that some of my friends who are perhaps less stellar than I am got accepted, but oh well; I’m happy at SOE.

Since you mainly asked if you have a shot, of course you have a shot! You’re an AP student with decent SAT scores and good ECs, particularly drum captain. Definitely apply by December 1st, but to improve your chances, you might wanna consider taking the SAT in December as long as Rutgers gets the scores in time.

“800 math, 800 writing, 630 reading”

800+800+630=2230 not 2270

Maybe that’s why Sixflags did not get in?
Unless 2270 is your superscore or maybe you mistyped.
By the way is 2230 good enough to get into Pharmacy?

LOL! Wow. Thanks for pointing that out; it was mistake. I did get 2230 instead of 2270 (I can’t even add nowadays.) Anyway, yes, I do think that 2230 is good enough for pharmacy as well; I never said it wasn’t. That’s why I’m surprised that I didn’t get in.

But the point here is, 1890 is a bit on the low side for pharmacy. Pharmacy really looks at the math and reading score. In his case, his math is good enough, but the reading is not quite there (530 on CR is the average even for SAS.) My friends who got into the program all had 650+ on critical reading although some of them bombed the writing section (low 600’s).

Glad to hear that sixflags. Thanks!

Get that CR score up. Sixflags is right, Rutgers’ EMSOP is heavily dependent on SAT scores (particularly math and CR) and GPA. Your GPA is fantastic as are your course rigor and ECs, but I think that CR score really brings you down. EMSOP is looking for somewhere around a mid- high 1400 range for both math and CR combined I think. If you’re taking the SAT in December, try to bring up that CR score, and you’ll have a decent shot.

Wait the Pharmacy school is hard to get into? I applied there on a whim because I had three schools I could apply to, and I already put SAS and Biological & Environmental Sciences, and did Pharm expecting to get in but not really expecting to go… people don’t get in with 2270s? WHAAAT?

the rutgers pharmacy school is one of the highest ranking and most exclusive pharm schools in the country, so yeah lol.

I have a friend who applied with pretty much the same states as the OP and he didnt get in. Sixflags I’m REALLY surprised you didnt get in with your stats, that seems weird to me I know people who got in with similar if not worse stats than you had… also sixflags when you say robotics captain do you mean FIRST?

Yes. My school had both FRC and FTC, but I was the captain for FTC only.

Also, I guess it’s understandable that I didn’t get in since the competition among applicants was the record highest for the 2010-2011…There is someone I know from my school who got rejected by all the ivies even though he is absolutely qualified for at least 1 of them.

Keep in mind that rankings don’t mean much in pharmacy. Everyone gets the same degree and passes the same NAPLEX. However, some schools do hold more weight for different areas of pharmacy or in different geographical locations. Rankings do not hold nearly as much weight as they do in, say, law or medicine. PharmD program rankings are also not sanctioned by the AACP, and the ones that are published are a result of peer evaluation and heavily rely on research. They hold some weight, but in most of the country it really doesn’t matter that much. Most 0+6 programs tend to be more competitive because it’s very appealing to be able to get accepted right away and go straight through the program as opposed to having to apply to undergrad and then graduate all over again. If there were a school like that in my area, I sure would have tried to go that route as well!

Here’s the most recent “rankings”: [Best Pharmacy Programs | Top Pharmacy Schools | US News Best Graduate Schools](http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-health-schools/pharmacy-rankings)

Every school strokes it’s own ego and claims to be the best at this or that and will skew statistics to make themselves look better… my “top 3” school as well. Every schools is “the best at this,” “discovered that,” or “is forging the way in so-and-so field.” It’s just the way schools present themselves to get students to come to their program. As long as the school teaches students how to practice pharmacy and not how to pass the NAPLEX, you’ll really be on a similar playing field as everyone else. Yes, some schools are better at teaching different fields than others and yes, some really are lacking, but overall you get out of school what you put into it. We all need to stop having superiority complexes about how awesome our school is and work as colleagues instead. --steps down from soap box–

Sorry for the semi-OT post above :)

Good luck with Rutgers! If I knew much else about 0+6 programs or east coast schools, I would try to chance you. I think what others have posted here sounds like really solid advice, though. There’s still plenty of opportunities to get into a pharmD program even if you don’t get in to a 0+6 program right now – especially considering how competitive they are – so don’t get discouraged if you don’t get in. Just keep swimming…

I’m surprised you didn’t get in, Sixflags. I just got my acceptance yesterday and I didn’t even have that many ECs. I did my essay in about two days and though it was pretty poor, so I’m surprised I was accepted. My stats:

33 ACT (probably what got me in)
97 GPA (Or 4.0, depending on which scale you use)
AP Calc & AP Psych, then around a dozen honors classes
ECs: Taekwondo for 10 years, NYS Science Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society, peer tutoring, and about 3 hours worth of community service at an elementary school.

OP, your chances of getting in are slim because Rutgers looks heavily on SAT/ACT scores as well as GPA. Your GPA is up there, but your SAT should be higher.
