Lack of AP courses or any higher challenging courses led me to paying for some of my own classes at local universities, which is why I work that much-- so that I can learn like others get to in schools with a bunch of AP courses. I've been told that it's great I sought other resources no matter what it took. I have faced a lot of adversity, which includes parents dying, foster care, many family problems, etc during high school.

I felt that my essay was very strong and passionate, and it really showed who I am.

Side note: Holistically, no one in my school has even taken close to this difficult of a curriculum. Also, 32 is about the top ACT.

Chance me for

bump bump, please

No need to bump in four hours.

Not many people on this site can give you a definitive answer to your question. You look like a great candidate, but these are all hypercompetitive schools that anyone would be lucky to get into.

I’d say:

Reach/High Reach: HYPS, Dartmouth, Brown, Columbia, UPenn
Low Reach: UC Berkeley, UCLA (both only if instate, otherwise reach), Hopkins, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Cornell,
High Mid: Tufts
Mid: Michigan (if instate, otherwise low reach)

…though this is just a shot in the dark. Best of luck!

Yours is an interesting case. Are you a Senior? If so, at this point it’s out of your hands, as I’m assuming you’ve already applied and are waiting to hear back from your list. I think your chances depend on how you framed yourself in your application. Your ECs for the top tier schools are not “stand outs” but, your story of working to pay for courses to extend your education and challenge yourself is impressive! Being first generation and low income should also give you a boost. What about your SAT 2s? I think a few schools on your list require these.

Wherever applicable, which major did you apply to?

Your list is relatively high for your stats… It all depends on your essays and other intangibles. What are your SAT2s?

Chance back?http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1606501-help-me-predict-am-i-doomed-enter-community-college-have-gap-year.html

I’m applying for biochemistry, and SAT II Biology (790). Couldn’t afford any more as I have to pay for a lot of things on my own. In my opinion, my essays were phenomenal. Couldn’t have been better. I spent a lot of time on them.

Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford: Reach (they’re reaches for everyone, I’d be surprised though, if you get rejected by all of them)
Columbia, UPenn, Johns Hopkins: Low reach
Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, UC Berkeley: high match
UCLA, Northwestern, Michigan: match
Sorry but I don’t know much about Tufts and Notre Dame.
Good luck!

Well unless you got a test waiver from the schools that require 2 SAT2s along with the SAT/ACT (which i think includes most of the ivy league, I know it includes Dartmouth), then all of those schools are out of reach simply because you didnt complete their requirements. Otherwise, I think you have a decent shot for all the schools on your list, especially since your courseload will stand out compared to what your school usually offers.

ACT + writing was sufficient and they did not need SAT IIs

I could be wrong but I think for Harvard its the SAT or the ACT with writing plus two SAT 2 subject tests regardless to whether you submitted the SAT or ACT. can anyone correct me on that?

TVenee is correct…

I’d add some safeties to your list unless you are a Michigan or California resident. I don’t see any matches on that list. All are reaches-high reaches. All of these schools are extremely competitive and you could be screwed at some because of low income. It could help at some of the others (Ivies)

I’m a Michigan resident. And low income? You do know that these colleges are trying to increase socioeconomic diversity because of the lack of it at their colleges. Most people in my income bracket never apply to ivy league. People always think it’s about the money. These colleges are so highly endowed and there are so many donations that it’s not that big of a deal…

If you think youre getting into a college because of low income you are surely mistaken

Im pretty sure need blind schools dont take your family income into account for admission, which means being poor wont help your admission chances…

Okay, leave aside the income. Don’t they take adversity into consideration? I believe MichiganMed has had to face some difficult times and has fought through them. Don’t the colleges look at his/her achievements in context of that?
