Chance me for Princeton PLEASE!

Hi. I just finished my freshman year, and I would liked to be chanced.
I go to TJHSST (Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology) in Virginia.

I had a REALLY bad year. Normally I am a straight A student, but I seriously underestimated my school, and I was super ignorant. By the time i realized this, the damage was done. Also, it didnt help most courses i took this year, weren't very mathematical. I am extremely conceptual/mathematical.

Anyways, here are my courseload and grades.

Spanish 1 - A
World History 1 - A
Algebra 1 HN - A
Geometry HN - A

Intro to Computer Science - A-
Spanish 2 - B
Gym - A
Algebra 2/Trig HN - A
Design and Tech - A
English 9 HN - B+
Biology 9 HN - B+

End of Freshman Year GPA - 3.72 unweighted, 3.95 weighted

Others
SAT: Math 800, CR 740, Writing 660
ACT: 33 Composite
SAT 2: Math 1, 2 - 800

ECs
Piano Player - 12 years, awards, amature recordings
Public Forum Debate - I plan to be Captain by Senior year
Forensics Debate - Same as public forum
Odyssey of the Mind - I plan to be an Officer/President by senior year
Community Service - Teacher - received presidential awards
Crew - 2nd Boat

This is the future course load i have planned out

Sophomore

Chemistry - HN
PreCalculus- HN
English 10- HN
World History - HN
Spanish III
Gym/Health

Junior
Post AP Multi Var/ Linear Alg
Post AP Artificial Intelligence 1, 2
Post AP Optics + Quantum Physics
AP Chemistry
AP Physics C
AP U.S History
English 11 - HN

Senior
Post AP Complex Var / Dif EQ
Post AP Organic Chem/ AMT
AP Music Theory

I am also going to self study AP World, Calculus BC, Environmental Science, Euro, Bio, Stat, Physics B, Comp Gov, Psych, and Micro/Macro econ.

I learned many valuable lessons from freshman year, and I have confidence that I can get straight A's for the next 3 years. However I was wondering how badly my freshman year will impact admissions, because of the quality of my classmates at my school. I know that TJ does not rank, but will i be compared to them negatively? I have heard that princeton does not look at freshman year grades, so will i be OK? Thank you for helping! Please reply honestly! I will chance back, once i become older!

You’re a freshman…

While TJ does not rank, colleges know exactly where TJ students rank in the class via grade distribution info.

No one can tell you a thing now. Just do your best and pursue a passion that will differentiate you from your very qualified peers.

You seem rather dedicated, so I’ll put it this way:
Freshman year grades are the least important, especially when one makes a transition into a new level of schooling. Given what appear to be great scores (great for a freshman) and a tough high school, I don’t think your freshman year will affect you too much. Still, no one can have a guaranteed admissions to Princeton (just saying you will probably be right on track).

Secondly, (nothing to do with admissions) I would recommend self studying lin alg + multi over BC (especially with NO calc experience previously). ABC calc will be a foundation for the rest of your math career and, in general, your experience and knowledge in BC will translate into three dimensional (nth dimensional actually) knowledge + lin alg is pretty easy. Single variable calculus also lets all other variations of it follow much easier.

Thank you.

@originalthought - im going to self study calc, because i can place out of calc into multi/lin. im not sure if i can do that with higher level at tj.
Calc seems very easy too. almost wrapped up integrals so… no biggie :)

are there any extra credit activities u guys recomend?

Hey tjkid, just wondering, what is your name? You seem very enthusiastic about what you’re doing. Is your brother Alex Kim?

Is this Ed Lee? :O

How do you possibly plan on studying freaking 11 AP’s on your own?

I lol’d at this point

Hahah trolllllll

Post AP Artificial Intelligence? What in the hell? And how do you expect to be able to handle Post AP Optics + Quantum Physics without taking Physics before and Multivariable Calc and Linear Algebra after only Precalculus? I think you need to slow down. Besides, if you only got a 3.7 with your freshman schedule, how can you expect to even possibly get straight A’s through the rest of your high school career when it is filled with classes like Multivariable and Organic Chemistry? Differential Equations? No offense, but you only got an A- in Algebra II. You seriously need to rethink this.

edit: nvm

10chyar

Try for straight As and start studying for standardized tests.

Hahaha I am not Ed. I know who he is though.
And i decided to cut down my AP exams. I also figured they were getting ridiculous. I will just take the math/science ones only over the next years.

Puggly, Artificial intelligence is a course offered at TJ for students who have taken AP Computer Science. Thus the name Post AP! Also, Optics and Quantum physics are courses available to us to take when AP Physics C is taken as a co requesite. Furthermore, I am going to go from Precalculus to multi by taking the AP Calculus BC exam, and by getting a 5(if possible). And I clearly wrote that i got an A in algebra 2. In fact, it was my highest grade of the entire school year.

But on the straight As thing, Ill just try my hardest. Thanks for the input.
