Chance me for PSU University Park

I applied on September 9th and applied for DUS as well as Summer Session for my second choice. Here are my stats:

SAT:1250 (600 math/650 reading)
GPA: 3.55 (I don’t know if this is weighted or unweighted? It was the only GPA reported on my schools records.)
APs: 1 Honors: 4
Rank: School does not rank. Private prep school in PA and grading scale as well as academic rigor is extremely challenging
Location: In State
Recommendations: Good
Essay: Great

bump

Whether your GPA is weighted or not will determine a lot. A 3.55 W is borderline and could go either way. A mom on the decision thread just posted a rejection for her son with a 3.6WGPA and higher SAT than you. He could have gone either way and unfortunately and sadly he was rejected. If 3.55 is your UW GPA and your WGPA is higher than that, then you likely have a shot at summer at least. The middle 50% begins at a 3.6. Usually anything at the bottom of the middle 50% can go either way.

If you don’t know whether it was weighted or unweighted, it was probably unweighted. IMO I feel like you would know if a bonus point was added to your GPA.
As for your chances, idk enough about PSU admissions to know for sure (I just got in and I’m looking around this thread to see if I want to go lol) but your stats are good, and if you get rejected by PSU then you’ll get into another amazing school!

congrats @nyuhopefull44! If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I’m an alumni, as is my husband and I have two kids who go to Penn State now. I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have about Penn State.

@jlhpsu I will have to check with my college counselor if that is W or UW because i am not sure. My school does have a tough grading scale- for regular classes, an A is a 96-100 or 4.0, A- is 93-96 or 3.666, and a B+ is a 90-92 or a 3.333. In honors, you add 0.5 to each GPA point and for AP you add 1.0 to each GPA point. I have seen many people on here have a 3.5-3.8 UW GPA and then close to a 5.0 W GPA, but on my school records we are only given the one number, which for me was the 3.55

@nyuhopeful44 Thank you and congratulations! I’m not sure if you have visited PSU, but I would definitely recommend it! The campus is beautiful and the tour I had was amazing and I got so much information, which is really why I love it so much!

If your rigor is difficult and your weighting scale is difficult, Penn State takes all of that into consideration. That is why it is almost impossible to compare across schools.

@jlhpsu That’s what I was unclear of, I didn’t realize they would take that into consideration. I am hoping this well help me having a lower GPA. Thanks so much for all of your help. Also, I have seen on threads before that your daughter had done the summer session- I have been looking into it recently because I honestly would do it if I was offered it- did she like it? I don’t mind doing the 6 weeks, the only offsetting aspect for me is the cost because I know PSU is not a school to give out aid and based off my FASFA I won’t receive much anyway.

She loved summer. She would absolutely would do it again. She made a ton of friends and got to know the campus and class rigor without being with 40,000 students in the fall. I’ve not met anyone who didn’t like summer, even if they didn’t initially want to go there

Would I get in to University Park
