Chance me for RD Please!

Hi! I love Wash U and I would be THRILLED to go there. I have interviewed, spoken to an admissions officer, attended multiple information sessions, visited the campus and done a dorm stay, and I am smitten with the school! I was wondering if you could chance me:

2010 SAT, 710 Math I SAT II

My GPA is an unfortunate 3.4 unweighted, but my school is incredibly difficult and well regarded in the academic community and I have straight As in the subjects relevant to my major. I am also taking the maximum course load. My school does not offer APs and has few honors classes, but I have taken them when they have fit in my schedule.

I have GREAT recommendations and my essay is unique. Everyone who has read it has loved it.

Internship:
Interned under head of department at a good university in the area of my major

ECs:
Dance competitively, practice about 16 hours a week, I am captain of my school's varsity dance team, and I teach ballet to little kids at my studio.
Editor in chief of yearbook and I was junior editor in chief last year
Class officer for 2 years
Head of multimedia club and school TV program
Head of French club
Secretary of volunteer organization
Counselor
School tour guide
Drama club 3 years
Model UN 3years

Any admissions insight you have would be much appreciated. I adore this school and I would be SO happy to go there.

I don’t think you will get in unless you have a hook.

I think I have to agree with onecot. The academics just don’t quite seem to be there, especially if you’re interested in math.

I almost feel that she would get admitted because Washu tends to reject overqualified students in RD, from what I’ve heard. And good ECs

I don’t know any students at WashU that had those stats that didn’t have a hook. Not trying to be mean but if someone ask to be chanced I am just trying to be honest.

Christine, WashU does waitlist some top students but there are still plenty of top applicants they accept RD.

Why would they wait list someone who is a top student? They don’t want only good students in their college?

What’s the breakdown on your SAT!

They waitlist some top students because more top students apply than washu can accept. Some people are convinced that washu and a couple other schools (e.g. Tufts) will reject “overqualified” applicants who they believe will reject washu in favor of a “superior” school.

Personally, I believe that washu does not practice this significantly more than any other school, and this so-called “Tufts’ Syndrome” is simply a way for wait listed applicants to mend their bruised egos.

On topic: academics are fairly low, and ECs are nothing special. It looks pretty unlikely that you’ll be accepted, but not completely out of the question.

Oops, wrote 2010, meant 2110. Thank you all for your feedback. I spoke to my college counselor, and people with lower scores and GPA have been accepted to Wash U from my school. I have a slight hook, which is great, so I’m still hopeful. I appreciate all of your responses!
