Shred metal guitarist (John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, Jeff Loomis, Steve Vai Style)
Somewhat-decent bassist.

Your chances look good to me.

I disagree. You have the scores, but your ECs appear weak – at least to me.

I thought that his music ECs were both interesting and unusually strong: playing professionally, giving lessons, shred metal guitar, in addition to the all state stuff. Plus what sounds like a successful career in debate. But I don’t know anything about the world of debate so it might have sounded stronger to me than it is.

^I agree with Consolation. ECs actually seemed strong to me. I guess mine are just weak in comparison…

I know nothing about music, so perhaps his accomplishments are more substantial than I thought they were.

However, I know a lot about debate, and his accomplishments definitely appear more impressive than they are. They’re okay, but the people who get into Dartmouth because of debate are all consistently top finishers in the national circuit tournaments (Glenbrooks, Emory, Harvard, TOC, CFL, NFL), and the OP is not at that level.

Perhaps his well-rounded resume will get him in if his music accomplishments really are that impressive.

Thanks for the quick feedback guys!

I agree… I think the people who can rest on their debate accomplishments to get them into the Ivies are the ones who made it all the way to the top. Debate isn’t really a unique asset to EC’s unless you’ve really gone that far. Your internship in Dubai sounds incredibly interesting though, because that’s not an experience many people have.
In short, don’t worry about your GPA or SAT’s. Those are solid. But I would agree with DartmouthForever, your EC’s would be the area you would fall short in.

Since I am a high caliber musician, I feel qualified to remark on the OP’s music EC’s. I do believe some things stand out, while others do not. All state is a big achievement–congrats on that. First chair and pep band do not matter as much (If you’re good you should naturally be first chair, no questions asked). Being paid to give lessons says something about your interest in music, but not so much your commitment to music (since, from what I infer, it’s only occasionally?).

The only substantial thing I see here is your all state status. To be highly involved in music, I would expect to see many summer camps listed, competitions and awards involved, performances, orchestras…etc…

Your inference is correct. Once again, thanks for the unusually detailed responses; I was expecting the usual “reach/match/high reach/etc.”

I see we finally have a 4chan visitor on these boards. Took long enough.

what is fourchin

Ur sats r 2 low

no chance imo

also ec’s bad

^^I’m assuming that that is supposed to be funny. (Low SATs?)

Someone who got 1670 thinks 2360 is too low??!!
