@Spartan- you’re welcome =)

Yes, thank you :)

I don’t think deepsand21 is actually a Duke student, but rather an applicant. I would myself never say that a 3.95 is a weak GPA.

Anywy, OP, no worries. I got two B’s in high school as well and fared fine, so no worries. :)

to reiterate what people above said, Duke has a very holistic outlook on admissions. When I visited and heard the info session, they said that they count everything EQUALLY. So recs, ECs, grades, scores, essays and rank are all factored in.

Also I got into UChicago EA with a 1290 (CR+M) and 3.77 UW and I am a not a URM or low income SO it really is a crapshoot and depends on SO many more things than grades and scores (I had strong essays and a lot of ECs like you)

Dude you got a great shot. Your GPA is fine - its actually great. The ONLY thing that might be low is your ACT score, which I still think is not a problem at all

1/6 of your duke app is rated on tests

-essays
-personal qualities/ECs
-recs
-tests
-transcript
-grades

Those are the six things that they equally weight in the App, I believe. I don’t know about your chances ( I can’t even chance myself lol) but just fyi

All I can say is that Mustang’s posts appear more motivated by a wish to exalt or promote his/her daughter’s chances of admission than by a wish to be of genuine help to Spartan.

As a parent, it can be naturally anxiety-provoking to have a child applying to college in this extremely competitive environment. However, deflating another candidate – who can rightfully boast a 3.95 GPA and the advantage of hailing from ND – can’t be the most mature or the kindest way to handle things, can it?

wow mustang 2000… Have you ever been an admissions officer before? Now, Im not going to chance anybody because I dont know, and quite frankly, I dont think anybody does. You never know what those admissions officers are looking for these days. I must say that I have to agree 100% with beatitudo… Good luck to everyone applying to Duke!

it bothers me when parents are on the thread boasting about their sons or daughters, parents are not the ones going to college at this time.

Wow, are you people paranoid or what? When people say chance me, are we all supposed to say, “You are definitely in?” No one can set odds with great accuracy, but one CAN make an educated guess. Start with the admit rate for RD, mix in the ACT range of accepted students, look at EC’s, grades, and make a best guess. No one knows teacher rec’s or essays, so that can’t be factored in. We did visit Duke and even they made it very clear how hard it is to get in even with very very high grades and ACT/SAT scores.
Why the heck would I not want to root for spartan? I never said anything bad at all, other than I guess I should have said a 90-100% chance to get in. I hope she/he does get admitted, but it is difficult for anyone. It has nothing to do with my daughter. I even said I’m worried about her chances as well. She is applying to many schools including Yale. Does she have a shot to get in?? Yes, but it will be even more difficult than Duke (statistically) due to their even lower admit rate. I have no problem with that. Does spartan have a shot-yes indeed! Again good luck spartan and ignore all the negative people on here.
