So for my essays I put a lot of time into them where for the big essay I wrote about my experience in working in the underinsured medical clinic and reflected how that made me a tolerant person which I could contribute to Rice. Overall my Letter of Rec I think are good both are from my research teacher (high school) and research professor at USC. I just really want to focus that i am research oriented as this is my 2nd year doing a research project and 1st time I am conducting my experiment in an official lab. Also for the random pic I posted me baking vegan cookies bc I love vegan baked goods...YUm! Anyways please chance me I'll y'all back as well!

Btw, y’all
I taking a buttload of AP classes!
Total including this year amounts to 11:
Soph: Bio (5), Stat (5), World (5)
Junior: Chem (5), US Hist (5), Lang and Comp (5), Psych (5)
Senior: Gov, Econ, Calc BC, Lit

I know AP don’t matter much but FYI. :). Plus the recommender a I stated are all doctors w PhD. Is that a plus? Respond and chance and I’ll return the favor love!! :D

Thank you for your response! Sadly he isn’t in contact with Rice but I hope that doing nanoparticle research would shine through my app since Rice is renown with nanotechnology in general. Moreover, I think just having research in your belt substantiates you as an avid scientist or someone who looks forward to a STEM career. Thanks again!

I think you have a good shot at Rice. Your SAT score is a bit low, but then again, colleges only care so much about numbers and your SAT II and AP scores make up for this!
At this point, I think your essays and teacher recs will determine it.
Also try to emphasize your passion for research by relating all your EC’s to each other somehow in the app.
But overall, I think you have a good shot! :)

Your only relative weakness is the SAT score, but it sounds like the teacher recs and additional letter of rec will help you get in. I would say you have a great shot with your GPA, rank, and overall package. Good luck!

UT sounds good but I’m applying not only to Rice ED but also GA tech, UNC Chapel Hill (all under early action.). I’ve applied to WashU as regular Decison, I know this is def a reach for me. Also safety schools are USC-Columbia and Clemson all under biomed engineering. Honestly, I’m no really looking for a TX school other than Rice @Catria…but thank you all for your suggestions!

I know you chanced me previously about Rice first being a reach then a high match, now I’m having doubts…should I be expecting a deferral or rejection? Idk, seems like SAT matters much these days and obviously my scores aren’t comparable to the other applicants. Let me know what you think

I got into Rice with a 2070 and my sat bio was a 580, Rice is different for so many reasons, a good personality that shows in an application is more important and far more interesting to read than pages of listed academic achievements, although they are necessary.

You look like a very competitive applicant on paper when you ignore your SAT scores. Your research and extracurriculars clearly show an interest in science, and that’s really good to have, rather than a laundry list of activities that just scream “I’m doing this for college admissions!”.

Because of your SAT IIs, APs, and research, you probably are going to be very competitive in the applicant pool, but the SAT I score will bring you down without a doubt. Really focus on those “soft parts” of that application and boost that score if you can.

Overall, I’d say Rice is a reach. But you definitely have a chance. You probably have a strong shot elsewhere as well.
