So, I went to an overnight visit at Rice a few days ago, and I love it! I really want to apply ED now...

SAT: 1600/1600 2320/2400
PSAT: 224(National Merit Finalist)
GPA: 4.28 weighted(don't know UW), rank 71/690(Worst part of my app...)
Double Legacy / grandson of tenured(retired) prof.
Getting an interview/recommendation from current Ethics prof.
Chose Rice as my #1 for National Merit
Also, on the app, it asks if I have a twin that is applying to Rice as well(I do!)

You seem solid. Not being in the top 10% will hurt, but NMF is a great bonus. What about your ECs? If your essays and ECs are solid, you should be set!

You are so very, very in. Unless the twin aspect has some kind of crazy influence, you have no ECs, or you write your essay about how much you love dogfighting and spitting at pregnant women, I would be absolutely shocked if they turned you down. Stellar scores + good grades + professor recommendation + a heaping plate of legacy = acceptance. If you don’t get in, I will go buy a hat, eat it, and post a video on YouTube. Seriously.

I hope you have fun over the next four years.

ECs- Varsity Soccer, Boy Scouts(sadly, will not accomplish Eagle), building and wiring guitars/amps, programming(will attend HP Codewars this year, a programming competition), Computer Science Club. Worked in a nuclear valve warehouse two summers ago, and a CPA firm last summer.

Right, Semi-finalist. I figure that’s as much as anyone can put on their apps, though, since, as you said, they don’t announce until spring. Sorry if that confused anyone. From what I have read, though, the only semi-finalists who don’t become finalists either write horrible essays, don’t write essays, or have bad/non-existent SATs.

As for the low rank, as cocky as it may sound, freshman and sophomore years were simply too easy to put much effort into/I was ignorant of what I was doing to my college chances. My junior year(the year when almost all students in IB make their worst grades), I made only 2 Bs, for a 4.625GPA, my best grades. I am set for straight As my senior year with a very rigorous courseload(6 IB classes and Soccer). I have heard that colleges take that into account.

PS: I do understand that you were joking :)

Wow, every valedictorian? Well, Rice appears to think highly of my school, since kids last year got in with lower rank/lower SATs/no legacies(my counselor showed me an anonymous spreadsheet).
