Hi guys!
I have applied early decision for Rice and was wondering if anyone could chance me?
SAT score: 2170 M-720 R-700 E-750
SAT II scores: 670 Biology 670 Spanish (I am taking Lit and retaking Biology Nov. 8 to get above a 700)
My school is weird in that an A- is a 3.8 and an A is a 4 so my GPA is a 3.65/4 (unweighted).
Something that sets me apart is that I am a student pilot and have soloed already. I plan on obtaining my license before the end of senior year.
Also, I transferred from a public school to a selective private school my sophomore year (Stanford University Online HS) because I wanted more of a challenge (and I included that in the additional comments of my app).
I plan on majoring in Kinesiology and Spanish.
My ECs are:
President and 4 year member of a volunteer league consisting of 100+ girls in my community.
President and founder of the SOHS film club
Lululemon Run Club Leader (half marathon training)
Triathlon Competitor
Teach ESL in a Spanish speaking community nearby weekly
Homework helper for two girls (4 days a week/2 hours a day)

Also, I should that my senior course load is as follows: AP Spanish (lit), Critical Reading and Argumentation class (required and considered University level), Honors physics (I took AP Bio last year), C programming, AP Calc AB, AP Microeconomics

I live in Houston, Texas. I only submitted my bio exam because it was the only one I took that was related to my choice of major. I received a 4.

I know that SOHS is really a big deal, at least when it comes to Stanford; however, I’m not sure whether the Rice adcoms are aware of this or treat it the same way. Other than this, stats seem fine, except SAT IIs (a bit low), ECs are good (if you included pilot thing this should be a plus).

Yhz1221 is absolutely right. Thousands can have the same (close) academics you do, but your ESSAYS will set you apart. Work those out. Work on revisions. Work on formulating.

Also, if you do have any other AP Exams that you have gotten 4s or 5s on, you can feel free to self report those. 5s especially will give you an edge. They will not only show your attempt in taking the exam after the class and will show your ranking among the nation. Rice surprisingly gives great credit for 4s and 5s so if you want to get out of some intro classes unrelated to your intended major, make sure you send those other 4s and 5s!!
