Chance me for RSI?

Female Junior from California

SAT: 2350 - 750 Math, 800 CR and Writing
SAT II: 800 Math II, 800 Physics, 770 Bio M
PSAT: 233 - 80 Math, 75 CR, 78 Writing
AP: Physics B (5), Biology (5), Calc AB (5), currently taking Physics C Mechanics and E&M, Chemistry, and Environmental Science (I also took European History and Music Theory and am currently taking US History but I don't think those are as important?)

Science ECs: I've been on my school's varsity Science Olympiad team since my freshman year and have consistently placed in top 6 at both the regionals competitions and state competitions for the majority of my Science Olympiad events. I am also a Science Olympiad coach and have been since my freshman year. I am one of few selected Research Associates for a non-profit organization called Catalyst for Success, an organization whose goal is to spread STEM education to younger children through the aid of high school students who are high-achieving in a STEM field. I am the president and founder of my school's Biology Tutoring Club and the vice president of SET (Science, Engineering, and Technology) Club.

Research: I applied and got into a selective program at UCSD during the summer after my sophomore year. It's called the Academic Research Scholars program and about 18-25 people make it in each year. I was paired up with a mentor in a biochemistry lab at UCSD and I did my own mini-project under his guidance for 3 weeks and made a poster for it and presented it to UCSD faculty. Afterwards, my mentor asked me to stay and be his intern so I continued working in his lab for 3 more weeks after the program ended. In total, I probably spent about 200 hours in the lab that summer, from 9 am to 7 pm every day except weekends.

Letter of Rec: Getting one from my lab mentor and another from my AP Chemistry teacher, who will probably give me a good reccomendation since I was so interested in chemistry that I took the online calculus course my school offered last year so that I had a free 4th period instead of an actual calc class which allowed me to go sit in his 4th period chemistry class so that I could learn from his lectures.

Non-Science ECs: I have about 50 volunteer hours from when I went to India and taught English at a young girls' orphanage there. 100+ hours from volunteering at VA hospital. I am a member of the National Honors Society. I have played piano for 9 years and I am currently at Level 7 for Certificate of Merit for piano and will be taking the Level 8 exam in March. I occasionally play piano at retirement homes also.

I know RSI is one of the most selective high school research programs in the world and I will have a ton of competition, but that also means its my top choice out of the programs that I'm applying to and I think if I got into this program I would seriously die of happiness.

Whoops forgot to mention I am also one of 20 people who made it into my school’s Quizbowl team when many people tried out for it. Also I scored in the 99th percentile for Johns Hopkins’ Talent Search program I took Chemistry at CTY during the summer after my freshman year. Lastly I have basically no knowledge in computer programming whatsoever, because I honestly have very little interest in things related to that field. That is all :)

you will get in and you have a shot at many ivies
safties all ucs exept for cal

lol @missionsan who doesn’t know what RSI is.

I’d say your chances are low. RSI is for mathematics students, not biochemists, not for someone who has only taken calc AB.

oh wait thats supposed to say calc bc, not ab. but i guess that doesnt really make much of a difference… thanks for your feedback

Not trying to be harsh, just realistic. Most of the projects completed there are high undergraduate, low graduate level projects.

Yeah no worries, I never really felt like I had a chance anyway, but I was wondering if other people had differing opinions
