Chance Me for Rutgers With a Low GPA

Hey guys. So before I tell you the details, I just want to add that the reason my GPA is so low is that I went to a double curriculum Jewish school and I did not know any Hebrew so for the first few years I failed basically most of my second curriculum classes because they were based off of it. This will be in my application in the essay and anywhere else I could put it possibly. Also want to add that my grades have gone up each year, and now in senior year I have a 90+ in basically all of my classes. So with that in mind, please chance me for Rutgers NB.

GPA- 2.7
Have been in at least one honors class each year. Am in Two APs this year. AP English and AP Microeconomics

SATs- 1240/1600 1890/2400
Critical Reading- 660
Math- 580
Writing- 650
(I am going to be taking it again in October.)

Also I have a strong essay that shows I'm a hard worker and also explains the horrible GPA in a well written way.

EC's-
Varsity Wrestling for 4 Years
Captain of the Wrestling team for 2 years
Student Government for One year, the Treasurer of the school
Started the Fitness Club

Thanks guys. If anyone has any tips to help me get in, please let me know.

What major? Some Rutgers majors are much more competitive than others. Generally I think you have a good overall app.

Well im thinking something like psychology, which is the SAS school. I heard its the easiest Rutgers NB school to get into.

Hi,

As @pellfour‌ mentioned, the strength of your GPA and SAT scores varies from school to school. To view the GPA and SAT scores of the middle 50% of high school students who were admitted to Rutgers for fall 2014, please visit the Admissions Profile page:

I can’t comment on what your chances are as I’m not an admissions counselor, however, my advice would be to keep raising that GPA as best as you can since you already have a competitive SAT score.

If you have any further questions, feel free to message me.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll keep working on the GPA. However this is my senior year so will you guys count my GPA from senior year? A part of it or at all?

Senior year grades are not required at the time of your application to Rutgers. (If we ask for them, you may submit mid-year grades. However, your senior year grades do “count”! All enrolling students must send a final transcript for our review. It’s possible to be admitted to Rutgers and then have your admission rescinded due to a decline in your senior year grades, as compared to those on which your admissions is based. Also, it’s a bad habit to get into slacking your senior year.

Just ask our student bloggers, as in “Five Things I Wish I Knew As a Freshman” http://admissions.rutgers.edu/blogs/students/post/2014/10/20/5-Things-I-Know-Now-That-I-Didnt-Know-As-A-Freshman.aspx

Hope this was helpful!
