Your unfocused ECs will hurt you. It doesn’t really seem that you show passion in a clear area.

But a first generation to go to college will override that^^

Your GPA is amazing! And your interview sounds like it went fabulously and your letters of rec sound equally impressive. You seem like a great candidate to me. I’m surprised that an IB school has never sent a student to Princeton. Have students gone to other selective schools?

@howdoudo989- I know they are super unfocused; I originally wanted to become a lawyer (internship with senator) then do business (summer college) so, I can definitely see the problem in that.
@sbjdorlo ever since my school went IB (I’m the third cycle, so first graduates were 2010), no one has gotten into an ivy…yes…no one. The top SAT in the class of 2011 was 1950, top ACT was 29; similar stats also apply to the year prior to that. That’s what I’m afraid of. They applied to top schools (Yale, Columbia, Cornell, JHU) but all were denied. I hope these schools don’t think my GPA is inflated!

best school any IB diploma candidate has gone was SUNY Binghamton…

If your parents went to a 2-year college or community college, and still received higher level education, your “first generation” status doesn’t really count.

Well, my son’s homeschooled so they have no one to compare him to in our “school”. His gpa is 4.0 (all As so far) and they really have nothing to base that on, either, except his outside community college transcripts (about 55 units) and his audited univ. classes, so he’s sort of in the same boat.

Nonetheless, I think you still have a good chance (but I’m just a mom).

any other thoughts?
