Chance me for schools! UCSD/UCI/etc. will chance back! =]

Haven't gotten much helpful replies in my thread a few months before and now that I have all my stats, I hope I can get some now

Senior/Male of Chinese Descent/First Gen/Lives in California

My school is a pretty good and competitive public school(99% graduation rate, 95% move on to 4 year college, sends many students to higher end colleges)
UW GPA: 3.6
UC GPA: 3.96

Sophomore year (really screwed it up :/)
Honors English: B/B
Pre-Calc Honors: A/B
Chemistry Honors: A/B
Spanish 2: B/B

Junior Year
AP Lang&Comp A/A
AP Chemistry B/A
AP Calculus AB B/A
AP US History A/A
Spanish 3:B/A

AP scores:
Calculus:5
Chemistry:4
US History:4
English Language and Comp:4

Senior Year: currently taking 3 AP's(Lit, Calc BC, Gov) and an honors (Physics)

SAT:
CR:680
Math:720
Writing:670
Total:2070 (retaking October)
SATII:
Math Level 2:800
Chem:680 (retaking November)

Essays: I'd say they are/will be pretty good since I'm a decent writer. 8 or 9 out of 10

EC's:
4 years Band. 2 years as section leader
2 years ECGA
3 years community service club (where we go to a local elementary school and teach children) and treasurer
60 hours of volunteer at a Youth Science Center
12 years piano. Completed the Certificate of Merit Program

Also, my school suffered a recent scandal (<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/ap-tests-preparation/1173766-ap-scores-cancelled-need-help.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/ap-tests-preparation/1173766-ap-scores-cancelled-need-help.html</a>) which has affected our AP tests to the point that we have retaken them. Because of this, we have each received a letter from the school for colleges about this incident and how it might have affected our scores(they're lower than they should've been) and our GPA. Thus, for many of us, our GPA and AP scores should be better than what they appear on paper to be.

Please Chance me for UCSD (Main Goal) as well as UCI/UCLA/UCB and Cal Poly SLO! I'll try to chance back! =]

Hey heyitzaustin,

Based on the information you’ve given, this is what I think your chances are:

UCSD - reach because it is #35 on the U.S. Universities Ranking list. Your test scores are good–great when it comes to math–but they’re not stellar. You can do better in CR and writing.

UCI - probably an easy target

UCLA - reach/target - UCLA admissions is highly competitive, as I’m sure you’re aware. Every little detail counts.

UCB - reach - it’s even tougher than UCLA.

Cal Polytech SLO - target

I think that if you improve your scores, you’ll be good to go. Your four years in band show dedication after all. That has to count for something.

Chance me back if you want to: <a href=“Questbridge Chance Me - Questbridge Programs - College Confidential Forums”>Questbridge Chance Me - Questbridge Programs - College Confidential Forums;

Thanks man, that was really helpful!

UCSD: in
UCLA: reach (SATs)
UCB: high reach (SATs)
UCI: in
Cal Poly: don’t know, sorry!

The UC system is all about the numbers, so that one year with B’s is really going to hurt you at the top-tier schools, as will the SAT scores. I’d go for a bunch of second-tier UC’s and maybe one or two CSU’s.

UCSD: match
UCLA: reach - SAT might help but raising chem subject test might be enough
UCB: high reach – bring up SAT
UCI: match
Cal Poly: Its really hard to tell because its based on your major. Some of the majors like Engineering are impacted to if you could tell us what your major is it might help better chance you.

Thanks guys i’m getting a lot more help than I thought I would haha

As for my major it will be engineering, specifically somewhere around EE or physics

/bumpitybump?

Hey! It seems like you have a very good GPA, but your SAT scores hinder you from having good chances at the upper tier UCs.

UCSD: match
UCLA: reach
UCB: reach
UCI: match

Please chance me back!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1202915-c-c-chance-me-please-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

UCSD: possible acceptance
UCLA: possible rejection
UCB: rejection (SAT scores)
UCI: acceptance
Cal Poly: Possible acceptance

For math/science, you need to understand that SLO is VERY competitive and most admitted students for these fields will have much higher SAT Math scores and higher GPAs. SAT is too low for Cal (you’d need a 2200+ at least for being an Asian male)
