chance me for SDSU and USD?

considering i get decent letters of recommendation and write a good essay, what would you say are my chances of getting accepted into San Diego State University and University of San Diego. I live in NJ (so i would be out of state), neither of my parents went to college, i am half brazilian (mom from brazil), and POSSIBLY majoring in communications. Also, if you think i would get accepted, how much money, if any, do you thing i could get from them?

  1. San Diego State admits by eligibility index and major. They do not accept Letters of Recommendation or essays for admissions. Also EC’s are not part of the admission process. It is all based on your CSU GPA and test scores. Your race/ethnicity not considered in admission decisions for the Cal States.

Eligibility index= (CSU GPA x800) +(SAT Math + EBRW).

How to calculate your CSU GPA. As an OOS applicant, only AP/IB or DE courses taken in 10-11th grade count for the extra honors points in the calculation link below.

https://www2.calstate.edu/apply/eligibility-index

An EI of 4100+ is competitive but definitely not a guarantee.

SDSU also offers no financial aid for OOS applicants so expect to pay full fees at $36-40K/year to attend.

  1. USD is a Private Catholic University and they will consider your LOR’s, Essays and EC’s.

This is last year’s Freshman profile:
Average college prep GPA (weighted): 3.9

  • 25th and 75th percentile GPA: 3.66-4.16
    Average SAT I score: 1263
  • 25th and 75th percentile SAT I scores: 1190-1340
    Average ACT composite score: 28
  • 25th and 75th percentile ACT scores: 26-30

The cost of attendance for USD is significantly higher than SDSU but your stats put within range for an acceptance. For merit aid, you would need to get your SAT scores up into the 1350+ range.

          (Per Year)

Tuition: $47,100
Fees: $608
Health Insurance: $2,307
Housing: $9,070
Meal Plan: $3,560
Total: $62,645

Run the Net Price Calculators for each school and show your parents if these schools are affordable.

I think you’ll get in both these. Also, they probably don’t get as many applicants from NJ, so I’d say your chances look good. Enjoy California!
