Ok I got pretty bad stats, so I want honest opinions. I really want to go to this school, so any help would be appreciated.

GPA(my biggest problem): 2.4(unweighted) It's only this low because my freshman year I was a complete screw up, for the rest of high school I made out with Cs and Bs. I also go to a college prep school where every single one of my academic classes is honors and very difficult. As far as this year(senior year) is concerned I'm getting all As and I calculated that if I do this all year I'll be leaving high school with a 2.9 or better.

ACT: 25

ECs: Model United Nations
Aerodynamic and Acoustics club, a quasi music club my friend started, I'm the vice president.

Volunteering: 150 hours of service at my local crisis center working for an ambulance service and family support. Got them last summer.

As far as essays are concerned they should turn out pretty good.

That's basically it, so chance me and I'll chance back.

Honestly, I think it’s a very high reach. Your ACT and GPA fall out of their scope and your ECs aren’t making up for it. It’s ultimately looking not very likely at all, try taking the ACT again, you’re going to want to score at least a 28 or above to make up for the low GPA, hell mybe even a 29 at least. You got to show them something to have a chance but if you have a low GPA and low test scores than it’s looking bleak right now, sorry :[

Ouch… GPA totally kills it. But its not Out of reach, just a high reach. Nail them with a not great but spectacular essay emphasizing your uniqueness, and strong points, and Extra curriculars. Here are some stat’s I found on the web:
Fall 2008 Acceptance rate: 29.8%
Early decision acceptance rate: 59%
High School Rank
Percent of first-year students submitting high school class standing: 33%
2008 Freshmen in top 10 percent of high school class: 37%
Freshmen in top 25 percent of high school class (2008): 79%
Freshmen in top 50 percent of high school class (2008): 96%
High School GPA
Percent of first-year students submitting high school GPA: 84%
Average high school GPA: 3.4
Fall 2008 Freshmen SAT Scores
Percent of first-year students submitting SAT scores: 89%
SAT Critical Reading 25th-75th percentile range: 580-680
SAT Math 25th-75th percentile range: 590-670
SAT Writing 25th-75th percentile range 590-690

Also will I’m thinking of just taking next year off to take classes and do volunteer work as well as travel. That would mean I’d have a 2.9(or better) official high school GPA and I would of taken some classes over the year they will see along with the work. How much good would this do me?

i don’t think you’ll make it. i’m sorry! but like… you should look for honors programs/colleges at local schools and still apply to skidmore! you could definitely potentially get in with ED! don’t give up on your dream :]

Consider a PG year somewhere if you can afford it and raise your high school stats and scores. I don’t think volunteering and traveling will help.

I have no idea how Skidmore transfer admits work, but this seems like a situation where starting at a community college and transferring after doing exceptionally well there might be the best chance to get in.

I’d say high reach. Try to get your ACT scores up a little bit, and work hard on your GPA this year, that’s the major problem with your application. Transferring may be your best chance.
Chance Back Please :)
