Any chances for NYU/Vassar? Vassar is my first choice but after seeing my SAT Scores tonight I'm not sure if it's possible anymore. I do have one more chance to take them, though.

In addition to chances for the aforementioned schools, do you guys have any recommendations for what other schools are within my reach? Preferably ones considered similar to these three?

Skidmore seems likely (good fit) – NYU is a tossup, but I’d say you have a very good shot. Vassar…I would raise the SAT a bit and make sure you’re in the top 10% of your class. Keep up the good grades and extracurriculars.

Also not sure what you’re looking for, as Skidmore and Vassar are vastly different from NYU (small, personal liberal arts colleges versus gigantic national university).

Your stats are almost identical to mine, apart from your SAT score being slightly lower than mine. I’m also applying to Vassar. I would say that if you can get >700 on each section of the SAT, you will have a solid chance at each school, especially Skidmore.

Vassar says that they don’t focus too much on freshman year (I have the same situation) so don’t worry too much about that.

Stay impressively active this summer (volunteer work, employment, internships, whatever), keep your grades solid in this fall’s semester, retake that SAT, work dearly on your essays, and you’ll be solid! Good luck!

You need EC’s that you not only participate in, but that you shine in. You have very similar stats to me, except for the EC’s, and my schools are slightly less prestigious than yours and I’m concerned. Do something you excel in this summer! Also, don’t kill yourself over the SAT’s. I cried over my 2020 earlier, but all my friends got like 1700’s, so… you’re well above average. Good luck (:
However, I’d say Skidmore is defs, at maximum, a high target.

Yeah, sorry about that synny201! Should have elaborated further.

All 3 are considered to have pretty liberal student bodies. I’m not looking at class size so much as I am at the type of students there although after reading over my post I see how incredibly ambiguous it is.

Thanks for the posts so far, though! Very helpful.

I think you have very good chances at Skidmore and NYU. Some others to possibly check into are Bard (not far from Vassar) and Sarah Lawrence (close to NYC). Best of luck!

If you’re looking for liberal (left/democratic) schools, a few that jump to mind are Bard College (voted most liberal in America behind the now-defunct Antioch), Brandeis University (nonsectarian but heavily Jewish, very liberal), Tufts University, Sarah Lawrence College, any of the seven sisters really, UC school system, Pomona College, and Marymount Manhattan College, and the Eugene Lang New School. Just off the top of my head (:
