Chance me for some Cali schools!

SDSU and UC Santa Barbara are two of my dream schools. I just started my junior year. I’m taking AP Bio, AP gov, Spanish 4, Apps of Comp and Lit, Honors Chemistry and Algebra 2. I have a 3.7 unweighted GPA and 3.9 weighted. I am in Key Club, NHS, Spanish NHS, Habitat for Humanity, and I volunteer at my local hospital. I have a 27 ACT and I am yet to take the SAT but I got a 2020 on the practice. I also live in Michigan so I’d be out of state. What are my chances? Would early decision help me out? Also, I want to go into pre-med

What is your intended major (Pre-Med not a major)? If you maintain your GPA and do well on your SAT, you have an excellent chance at SDSU. UCSB will be a little more difficult. You need to have a UC GPA of around 4.0 and SAT/ACT scores of 2000/29 to be competitive.

Can you and your family afford $36K/year for SDSU or $55K/year for UCSB? Little to no financial aid as an OOS student.
Keep up the good work, repost at the end of your Junior year and calculate your CSU/UC GPA: http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

I would probably go the biochem route

I agree with Gumbymom as far as your chances. SDSU is possible with an SAT above 2000 although it has become quite competitive for admissions. UCSB is a bit of a reach even though your GPA is very good, it should be higher. You will not get any financial aid as an OOS so make sure to review the cost with your family.

UC’s and CSUs do not have early decision.

Only Cal Poly SLO has Early decision. All majors are impacted and competitive.

With a 3.9 and 27, i think you’ll make SDSU but, not UCSB. OOS tuition all 4 years is a killer though -

Take a look at So Cal privates like LMU and USD. You’ve got strong stats and may get some merit aid - making them cheaper than SDSU.

Good luck
