Subjective:
[li] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis):[/li]Boy Scouts 7th Grade - Present (Really Emphasized this)
Eagle Scout (First in Troop’s History), Order of the Arrow Brotherhood
Served as Senior Patrol Leader for four years and tripled the troops size
Handled many scouts with mental disabilities and helped boys reach maturity
Cross Country 9th Grade - Present (Also did Track Indoor/Outdoor all four years)
Team Captain (Co Captain Last year)
Talked about how I helped the team overcome a big crisis within the team
Talked about how I became captain despite being nowhere near the fastest through being a good role model/leader
Chess Club President and Founder 11th Grade - Present
Our Hundred Year old school didn’t have a chess club for some reason, and as this was a hobby I enjoyed, I decided to found the club to find people to play with and help bring the clubs to others. Became one of the biggest clubs in the school and maintains a good amount of members.
Science National Honors Society VP 11th Grade - Present
Organize guest speakers to come to our school from the local research facilities, help promote interest in science in our school and encourage people to take on the “horror” that is AP Science classes.
National Honors Society Treasurer 11th Grade - Present
Gave speech to the school and handle one of the largest clubs in the school’s budgets, help coach underclassmen on classes to take to get NHS and eventually get into a good strip club.
Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honors Society)
Rho Kappa (Social Studies Honors Society)
National English Honors Society
Some SGA/Red Cross thrown onto the last categories of the Common App ( I know this means nothing for admissions)
[] Job/Work Experience: None really
[] Volunteer/Community service:
Tons of stuff from Boy Scouts (Eagle project, organized volunteer events etc.)
Tutoring (and lots of it)
Talked about how my HEAVILY (70% Minority) diverse school had lots of opportunities for tutoring and extra help and really needed it. Tutor during every study hall period, and often tutor those who can’t even speak English using my rudimentary Spanish skills to teach English, Basic math, etc.
[] Summer Activities: Boy Scouts Summer Camp, Practicing for Cross Country
[] Essays: Common App (8/10) Talked about the meaning of each of my leadership positions and how I help people in each of them, EC supplement talked deeply into my role in scouting and how I helped the boys grow even the ones with major disabilities (8/10), Specific strip club essays talked mostly about my future plans of how I want to pursue ROTC at their schools and use ROTC to pursue my goal of being a Nuclear Engineer so I can change how the world uses energy (7/10 depends on the school and how i adjusted to prompt)
[] Teacher Recommendations: AP Calculus AB/BC Teacher and AP Chemistry Teacher, Both wrote really good recommendations for me (According to my ROTC officer who read them in front of me)
[] Counselor Rec: no schools required this I think
[] Additional Rec: Had a humanities teacher write one for MIT who knew me and respected me from AP US as I was best in the class and engaged him in discussion a lot
[] Interview: All went fantastic, talked more about my plans for the future and how I could contribute to each of the schools, they all said I had a strong application and would be saying good things about me
