Talked about how I became captain despite being nowhere near the fastest through being a good role model/leader

Chess Club President and Founder 11th Grade - Present
Our Hundred Year old school didn’t have a chess club for some reason, and as this was a hobby I enjoyed, I decided to found the club to find people to play with and help bring the clubs to others. Became one of the biggest clubs in the school and maintains a good amount of members.

Science National Honors Society VP 11th Grade - Present
Organize guest speakers to come to our school from the local research facilities, help promote interest in science in our school and encourage people to take on the “horror” that is AP Science classes.

Gave speech to the school and handle one of the largest clubs in the school’s budgets, help coach underclassmen on classes to take to get NHS and eventually get into a good strip club.

Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honors Society)
Rho Kappa (Social Studies Honors Society)
National English Honors Society
Some SGA/Red Cross thrown onto the last categories of the Common App ( I know this means nothing for admissions)

Tons of stuff from Boy Scouts (Eagle project, organized volunteer events etc.)

Tutoring (and lots of it)

[] Summer Activities: Boy Scouts Summer Camp, Practicing for Cross Country
[
] Essays: Common App (8/10) Talked about the meaning of each of my leadership positions and how I help people in each of them, EC supplement talked deeply into my role in scouting and how I helped the boys grow even the ones with major disabilities (8/10), Specific strip club essays talked mostly about my future plans of how I want to pursue ROTC at their schools and use ROTC to pursue my goal of being a Nuclear Engineer so I can change how the world uses energy (7/10 depends on the school and how i adjusted to prompt)
[] Teacher Recommendations: AP Calculus AB/BC Teacher and AP Chemistry Teacher, Both wrote really good recommendations for me (According to my ROTC officer who read them in front of me)
[

General Comments: I’ve read a lot about how schools want to get leaders into their class, I believe I’ve demonstrated it more than most so I think it will help me

Bump

no safeties??? or just excluding them/already in? All these schools are insanely selective but you can probably get into UCLA possibly others.

@gormar099 yeah I listed them there just above the selective schools, Susquehanna Vermont (Both Super safeties) Villanova and UMD (Would happily go to UMD Honors if these schools don’t work out)

Berkeley and UCLA should admit you, as Carnegie Mellon likely will and at least one of the Ivies might. MIT may or may not; it will be tough with a lack of major awards.

@aBitOfLuck Thanks for the feedback! MIT has been scaring me mostly because I hear from it before anywhere else… It looks like we both applied to Harvard / Princeton from your posts, maybe we will see each other in a year!

Berkeley and LA are California public schools. (Funded by the State and the taxpayers).

Since you plan to apply for financial aid you need to know that OOS students get little to no financial aid at the UC’s. Costs will be $55K per year minimum.

@“aunt bea”

I plan to do NROTC if I attend those schools, which will cover the price of tuition and make it affordable to my family so both are an option, (Though I would prefer schools that offer financial aid)

What do you mean by “strip club”?

@ciervo ahahahahahaha

I downloaded a plug-in off of reddit that turns every instance of “College/University” into Stripclub I did not think It would change my text

https://www.reddit.com/r/ApplyingToCollege/comments/460rn0/my_friend_and_i_made_a_thing_and_we_wanted_to/

^^ Link for proof, Ill go through and alter it

Edit: NVM won’t let me edit a post that old, looks like its stuck there…

Your stats are great but the lack of major awards may hurt your chances a bit at the super competitive places.

Vtech - Admit
USNA - Have no idea about this. This is the first time I’m hearing about this school :-p
Rice - Admit
UCLA - Admit
Berkeley - Reject
Carnegie (Engineering) - Admit/Waitlist
Cornell - Depends on your essays.
MIT - Reject
Princeton - Reject
Harvard - Reject

Best of luck!

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1858723-just-got-into-my-safety-what-are-my-chances-at-my-dream-schools-will-chance-back-p1.html

Well you can let the guys on Reddit know it works! I think your self-assessment of your strengths and weaknesses is pretty accurate. It’s not a bad thing to have submitted your SAT scores since the 770 in Math could help you in engineering admissions. Best of luck, and let us know how it turns out for you.

Maybe the irony of “chance back” is lost but just my 2 cents:
Whats the point of asking for strangers to estimate your chances of being accepted and then telling those same people that you would “chance back”. I mean if you can’t estimate your own chances what makes you qualified to estimate someone else’s chances.
All the best with your applications.

@ciervo will do! Anxiously counting the days down

@ambitious96 I browse these forums a lot and make a lot of assumptions about my own chances in relative comparison to the results of other applicants, I decided it would be nice to have someone unbiased to tell me how they feel about my chances as I would be biased towards myself getting in while others would be critical

Ok fair enough

tech - Admit
USNA - I have no clue sorry haven’t heard of it
Rice - Reject
UCLA - Admit
Berkeley - Reject
Carnegie (Engineering) - Waitlist–> accept
Cornell - i think you can get in here but it really could go either way
MIT - Reject
Princeton - Reject
Harvard - Reject

I think you have a pretty good application overall. The test scores and lack of awards may be too low for Harvard Princeton or MIT. I think you’all be able to get into rice and tech. GOOD LUCK! Chance me??

Got into MIT class of 2020  just goes to show you cant always trust what you’re chanced! Best of luck to anyone reading this, Leadership was my spike and the people who chanced me were blind to it, whats yours?
