Assume you’ll get in everywhere else, but probably Vanderbilt and Wharton, with Vanderbilt having a slightly better chance. If you were denied Duke based upon stats, you are also likely to be Denied Vanderbilt or Wharton (Vanderbilt is basically identical to Duke Stats. wise and so is Wharton). However, I think Duke just does it a little differently (It’s kind of like places like Harvard and Chicago that have the same stats. as places like Vanderbilt, WashU, and ND but admit a slightly different kind of student than many of such places), so you may have a better chance at Vanderbilt which may be slightly impressed with the stats (but not really…). I have no idea why you didn’t apply somewhere like Emory or Rice which are in the south and you actually have better chances at (you’re a match, whereas no one is for Vandy and Duke and you’re being yield protected at Tulane). Emory and Rice are academically equivalent to Vanderbilt (as opposed to Duke, which is up there academically IMHO) but a bit easier to get into because they get less apps and are less selective stats wise. However, from the way it’s looking, you seem to want a serious football/basketball culture if you went to school in the south. Oh well, too late and good luck.

Thanks for the response. Rice is one of the few schools (along with Wake and UVa) that I now wish that I had applied to. I toured Emory and did not really like it. I thought of Rice in the first or second week of January, but the deadline was January 1st.

And, you are right that big sports are a consideration of mine, but not the be-all-end-all.

Too bad you didn’t like Emory (you should actually remember that tours are usually not the best representation. But I can see someone finding Emory a bit weird or intense and also doesn’t go along with the feel of traditional school pride that you seem to be looking for according to your other applications). But yeah, at least Rice, UVA, and Wake would have made sense in context of the rest of the schools. Emory is more of like a Chicago type of feel. There are not really any Chicago type of schools on your list (not even the liberal arts oriented ones).

If you want more laid back academics (not necessarily in terms of rigor, but a general air of “fun”. Students lean more “academic” than otherwise at many of the D-3 type of schools) you don’t consider these two. There are not really any Chicago type of schools on your list (not even the liberal arts oriented ones) so I’m not surprised. Regardless, good luck, even if Vanderbilt or Penn don’t work out, you’ll land somewhere good.

I think you’ll definitely get in to every school besides Penn and Vanderbilt. Tough luck with Duke. Hopefully Tulane notices that your level of interest has risen and puts that into consideration.

Unfortunately I don’t know too much about these schools, but I think Tulane and Vanderbilt are low reaches and Penn is the biggest reach school. The only thing that may be harming you is that your unweighted GPA is slightly low, but to compensate, you have great EC’s. Good luck!!
