Chance me for some top schools ! Will chance back

So, I know some people think that these chance threads might not be too helpful since "you never know", but I'd like to get a general idea of what some critical people think. I come from a decently competitive public high school in LA county that sends a good number of students to Ivies and other top schools, if that matters. If you'd like me to chance you back, please post the link to your thread!

Anyways, I think I MIGHT be aiming a little too high, not sure. Any input would be nice. The direct medical programs I'm applying to are (and I'm pretty sure) almost impossible to get into, but I guess it might be worth a shot, right?

Schools that I'm planning on applying to:
Private
Stanford SCEA
USC (I have legacy here)
Brown (+ PLME)
Darmouth
WUSTL
Rice (+ MSP)
UPenn
Princeton

Public
UCLA
UCSD (+ MSP)
UCB

Thank you everyone!

You have fantastic Stats, however, your extracurriculars leave something to be desired if you want Stanford and Princeton. These schools want something extraordinary, something that you and a few other students in the nation do. Your app, while great, has more of the “cookie cutter” approach.

So my verdict is:
Stanford-Reach
USC-Match
Brown-Reach
Dartmouth-Reach
WUSLC-Match
Rice-High Match/Low Reach
UPenn CAS- Low Reach
Princeton-Reach

You’ll get all the UCs.

Sounds harsh, but it isn’t. If you have fantastic essays, and I mean, mind blowing, you can get Brown Dartmouth Penn. And you might be able to get those even now; you have good stats once again.

Good luck!

Your scores are great! I feel like your only reach would be Brown and all of your publics should be a breeze. You said you wanted to apply to some direct medical programs, have you considered NEOUCOM ? It’s a 6 year program and getting into it with 35 is almost a guarantee. The only thing is they give priority to Ohio residents and it’s not the best… I think you should go for the direct programs, I mean it’s won’t hurt you. good luck!

Great stats, like everyone else said, UCs will be a cinch, especially cause you live in Cali. Now you’re EC’s look good on paper, but I’ve got a feeling that you do more for your EC’s that can be posted on a forum. I speak from experience, I struggled to write a “Chance Me.” I really wanted to show my EC’s cuz I didn’t want to appear “cookie cutter,” so mine ended up really long…and boring. But back to the topic, that’s where your essays come in; pour your thoughts on your EC’s in those, which will make you seem more competitive.

I think the EC’s are great, and the 35ACT and 4.0 make a great 1-2 punch.

And to follow in diplomonad1’s suite…

Stanford-Reach
USC-Match
Brown-Reach
Darmouth-Reach
WUSTL-Match
Rice--------diplomonad1 said High Match/Low Reach; I thought just regular match
UPenn-Reach
Princeton-Reach

Please chance me too!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1167845-chance-me-please-i-will-chance-back.html#post12832922</a></p>

So as of now my chances for the Ivies and Stanford are kind of a crapshoot, like everyone says?

Thank you everyone. diplomonad1, I did expect some of those answers, so I find no harshness in it at all. Thank you for your honesty.

Does anyone else have any opinions? Any would be greatly appreciated.
oliveroliver, I will chance right now!

You are going to get into your UC schools and you have a good change at all of the others, but you need to remember that for Princeton and Stanford, the chances are never high Chance back please.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1167826-elephant-now-i-have-your-attention-chance-first-tier-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

Thank you, platypus26. Will chance back now.

Oh yeah, forgot

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1167842-chance-me-top-tier.html</a> Thanks!

don’t worry about your school not weighting. The colleges do that.

Stanford-High Reach
USC-Match
Brown-Reach
Dartmouth-Reach
WUSLC-Match
Rice-High Match/Low Reach
UPenn CAS- Low Reach
Princeton-Reach

UCLA: match
UCSD: in
UCB: match/low reach

I’d say you should vary your private schools a bit more. Don’t pick Ivies because they are Ivies. Look at each one individually and figure out which one suits you and your interests the most. Good luck!

Thank you, gerian. I actually did do my fair share of research on each of the schools I applied to and found them suitable for me. Perhaps I should narrow down my list of ivies a bit more?

diplomonad, will chance.

To answer your question also, CSF is a good EC. Pretty standard for all applicants at your prestige. Not going to make or break you, but it’s good to have what others also do.

Sorry, but I forgot to mention that I do have a little bit of work experience as a magazine deliverer. As the deliveries director for Partnering With a Business, it was my job to deliver the magazines where the CEO wants them to, but it was completely up to me as how to do so.

Just a little bit of info I thought I’d add.

Thanks diplomonad for the answer :)

ECs are weak. Maybe try to do something this summer that would be a strong and/or unique EC?

stanford, brown, and princeton are crapshoots. high reaches; lot of emphasis on essay

USC- low match
Dartmouth-Reach
WUSLC-Match
Rice-high match
UPenn CAS- Low Reach

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1165439-please-chance-me-also-can-i-actually-get-into-any-these-aiming-too-high.html</a></p>

Private
Stanford SCEA -highest reach
USC (I have legacy here) -match
Brown (+ PLME) -mid reach
Darmouth -mid reach
WUSTL -match
Rice (+ MSP) -match
UPenn -low reach
Princeton -mid/high reach

Public
UCLA -match
UCSD (+ MSP) -match
UCB -match

The Ivies are really completely random with their acceptances. There’s no way of telling what Ivies you will, and what Ivies you won’t, get into. It’s just all a matter of chance. However, Princeton will probably be the hardest Ivy out of all of them to get into, whereas Brown, Dartmouth, and UPenn will be a bit easier. Standford is just about impossible in my opinion.

Anyway, I do think you’ll get into at least one Ivy, but probably more than one, if not the majority. Your Stats are quite amazing, and I think you’ll get into the rest of the schools (non-Ivies) without a problem.

Chance Back… http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1165818-chance-incoming-senior-fordham-nyu-barnard-ivies.html</a></p>

Like many of the above posters, I agree that your stats are great which makes you almost guaranteed for any public school. I also agree with many of the posters that your ECs don’t show any obvious focus. The EC is something that can be resolved by the essay but I wouldn’t count on it. As a result I would chance you:

Stanford SCEA - Reach (I would consider doing standard EA and apply to several schools rather than applying to stanford)
USC (I have legacy here) - Match
Brown (+ PLME) - Reach
Darmouth - Reach
WUSTL - Match
Rice (+ MSP) - Low - mid reach
UPenn - Reach
Princeton - Reach

Public
UCLA - match
UCSD (+ MSP) - match (if MSP is a combined medical program then reach)
UCB - match

Chance back please
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1166781-early-action-dilemma-what-my-chances.html</a></p>

Stanford- High Reach
USC- Match
Brown- Reach
Darmouth- Reach
WUSTL- Not sure
Rice- Match/Low Reach
UPenn- Mid Reach
Princeton- High Reach
UCLA- In/Match
UCSD- In
UCB- In

I definitely think you have great stats, but your ECs are a little weak- nothing really stands out as something you’re passionate for. Not only that, but Ivies are definitely unpredictable. Definitely work hard on your essays and good luck!

The ivies are definitely not crapshoots; I think an Essay or interview is the determining factor. You’ve got everything else, it’s just in this era nobody is a “match” for the ivies, you are, however, very very close to it.

Wow - You have a very strong application geesh - Your EC’s are absolutely excelent as are your scores! Seriously, you better be able to get into these schools - and if you don’t - they turned down a great applicant- goood luck!!!

Here’s what I think :

Stanford-Reach (Like everyone lol)
USC-Match
Brown-Reach /some match - Good luck with PLME. That’s hard to get into.
Dartmouth-Reach
WUSLC-Match/safety
Rice-High Match/Low Reach
UPenn CAS- Low Reach
Princeton-Reach

All the Uc’s = in

Chance me back? Appreciate it :]

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1167065-chances-will-chance-back-promise.html</a></p>

Thanks!

Thank you for everyone’s input. I’ll be most definitely signing up for off-campus interviews and visiting these schools to see if they’re my ABSOLUTE desires this coming August.

I will be chancing back to everyone right now; I just got back from a 24 hour event and knocked out for 7.5 hours. I would still like more opinions if that’s okay!
