Overall, your profile is very solid. You would be some steep competition at pretty much any school. I’d say you’ve got a strong chance at all the schools, save for the ivies, which are pretty much a lucky shot for anyone. You’ve got a fighting chance there, but even your stats don’t guarantee admission. Then again, Nobody on these chancing threads are experts, so best of luck. I’m sure you could set yourself apart with your essay/recommendations.

I have to disagree with what most people are saying here. Even for in states, UCLA and Cal are extremely competitive. They are at least high match-low reaches for pretty much everyone.

I’m not saying don’t apply, I just don’t want you to think you’re a guaranteed admit at those places, because pretty much nobody is.

In agreeance with most other comments. You have great stats, but there isn’t any one great hook to put you above the swarms of other Ivy candidates. You have plenty of involvement in club, but no exceptional achievement. In terms of the Ivies, I’d put you at low to mid reach for all of them. Same with Stanford. I’d say you’re a match at all your public choices, (UCSD may even be a low match to safety), and you should be good for Rice and USC.

Thank you everyone. chancing back right now.

By the way, would it be beter for me to apply to all my other schools’ EAs than just applying to Stanford SCEA?

Thank you winters. Will work on your chanceback ASAP

Stanford SCEA - reach
USC (I have legacy here) -match
Brown (+ PLME) -mid reach
Darmouth -low reach
WUSTL -match
Rice (+ MSP) -match
UPenn -low reach (if CAS)
Princeton -reach

Public
UCLA -match
UCSD (+ MSP) -match
UCB -match
Definitely EA at Stanford bc I think you have a decent shot. The Solar Cup was the most intriguing so I think you should focus one of your essays on the competition.

What is you gender/ethnicity? top schools like HYPS tend to hate Asian males from California.

Academics: gpa, ACT, SAT IIs are strong, but of course, this is not nearly enough for some of your top choices. What’s your class rank btw?

ECs: As people have said, they are weak for the top most schools on your list. Not too much leadership, but it’s not lacking. What is lacking is a focus…not much coherence. This has to do partly with your lack of involvement outside of school. Nothing unique, nothing extraordinary like Stanford or Princeton adcoms are looking for.

Given this, Princeton, Stanford, Brown (esp. PLME), and Dartmouth are mid/high reaches. Penn would be in the low/mid reach range leaving Rice and WUSTL in the low reach category. UCLA, UCB, and UCSD are matches.

Thank you Whartonitis. How do you suggest I focus on Solar Cup? For my personal essays and my Stanford supplements, I somewhat focused on expressing MYSELF through a creative manner, not necessarily focus on my ECs. Can anyone put insight into this?

Funny, dblazer. I’m a Vietnamese-American male from California, shoot. My school does not provide rank, unfortunately. I do understand that my ECs do not have any focus, but to be honest, I have not been able to find any passions or interests until a few months ago. I hope after this USC program my newfound passion for health care will be established in my life, but I do not plan on focusing my essay on this.

Will work on chancbacks now

Wow you have great stats. Try to take the SAT, as standardized tests are the first thing that adcoms see. Other than that, write distinguishable essays and you will go to a great school! Good luck.

Thank you guys. Working on your chancebacks right now.

And yeah, I’m starting to reconsider Princeton after doing a little more research and looking at these chance posts. I’ll have to see.
