Thanks and good luck to all, I'll reciprocate any chances I get

If you show focus/passion for something, Stanford's very possible. (Your numbers match Stanford.)

here are a friend of mine's stats...

2370 SAT
straight A's
president of this...captain of that
Summer program student

...and he got deferred...numbers REALLY don't matter, it a matter of what they haven't seen yet

Write a good essay and find some stellar recs and you have a decent chance.

Stanford - Reach

It really is a crapshoot. A friend of mine was accepted EA to Stanford with SATs in the mid-2100 range, less than stellar ECs (their only significant activity was spending a semester in Latvia), and an admirable - but by no means 4.0 - GPA. Another student at the same high school applied RD with a 4.0, 2220 SATS, every EC under the sun, etc. and was rejected.

Post Script: Though to be fair, my friend wrote their essay about despising Ayn Rand, which makes them pretty deserving of acceptance in MY book.

I felt compelled to join this forum recently, after receiving hope from my school that Stanford was very interested me. Recently, they talked to my principal and councelor, and they told me that they sounded very positive.

This is a shock, because my stats, and my characteristics are very different than the average applicant.

-2020 SAT's
- 600 range on SAT II's.
- 4.0 unweighted
-Only two AP classes over four years, 4 on Spanish AP test.
- Ranked first in class of 50.

My other characteristics are what I believe gives me a chance...

-Attended Alternative magnet school
- Latino
- Highly accomplished in music (I turned in a CV and a audition CD)
- Started, and very involved in school and community organizations.
- Great references from teachers and administrators
- Very good and unique essays.

I feel very encouraged that I have a good chance despite my low SAT's etc...

What do you guys think?

Any feedback would be appreciated

bigbeatbenny: I wouldn't be too surprised if you got in. Really, it might depend on how the admissions officer may be feeling... Your test scores are in the okay range but I'm assuming your ECs must be really good if the schools has specifically shown interest.

I think you have a chance, two students from my school just got in early decision. One of there profiles:

All As, except two Bs freshman year
rank: 20/350
SAT: v-750 m- 730 w-780 (took 3 times..didn't do nearly as well the other two times) and 800s on the chem and math 2 SAT 2s
President of Key Club/NHS and was involved in Science olympaid and science bowl

i think as long as you have a great essay and great recs.. you've got a shot. good luck :]
