Job:
9-11th grade: Worked at my dads gas station 30 hours a week for no pay.(Stereotypes...lol)

GPA may end up a tad higher(but not much) because I haven't officially seen my school calculated mid year GPA

The bad GPA freshman and sophomore year is due to laziness. I hope it doesn't kill me completely.

imo, stanford’s going to be a reach but your stats and ECs are great, especially all that volunteering :P. are you applying to any other schools?

Not to seem harsh, but I think your GPA may hurt you more than jisaacs thinks. You did turn yourself around though (good for you!), and you seem to be a qualified applicant nonetheless. Write great essays, get amazing letters of recommendation, and hope for the best! Good luck!

I think that you are a good match for the school just depends how many applicants have a similar academic record. The GPA may hurt you but it would not hurt you completely considering the ECs are great!! A good match for you!

Stanford, Columbia: Reach, most acceptanees usually get some award or achievement outside of local academics (played at prestigious musical center, built some crowning science experiment at well-known competition, etc) to truly catch the eye of the higher-end schools. For the most part, your essays will determine whether you’re in or not.

Every other school is probably a low match or safety

What 20more said… I’m going to say it’s definitely a high reach for you. I know a few asian people with perfect SATs and tons of national awards who got rejected

Would low income(<10k) count as a hook? I could also include how working freshman and sophomore year took it’s toll on my grades somewhere in the app.

^ Low-income does indeed count as a hook. So does first-gen, legacy, donor-status, and athletic recruit.

Stanford is a reach for you. Like others said plenty of students get rejected with great numbers and awards. Unless you have a great hook like legacy or major donor-status it is a crapshoot and automatically a reach. Good luck!

“I could also include how working freshman and sophomore year took it’s toll on my grades somewhere in the app.”

It is not your GPA!
You are an Asian and you are applying for a school with less than 10% admit rates.
They are all reach schools whether you like it or not.

What about QB, if your parents income is lower than 10K.

I see. Well, I guess I have to work my but off on those essays. Recs are decent. One is from AP Bio teacher who adores me, and one is from APUSH teacher who apparently writes the best letters on the planet.

Your chances for Stanford are good! Your SAT score is impressive, along with your Advanced Placement performance. The unfortunate thing is that Stanford will get many applicants who are just as impressive as you are. However, I have hope that they will accept you- you’re an academic stud.
