Chance me for strong finance / business universities

They are both good schools but you have only 2 safeties and 10+ reaches. Like I said UCI is a good school for business and an OOS admit is easier than instate. If you are already applying to UCLA and UCB there is really 0 marginal cost beyond the app fee. You just need to add UCI and major selection and don’t have to write any additional essays.

Adding on this, an option I wanted to keep open is CC. UVA has guaranteed admission for CC and I already have 24 CU, if I continue CC I’ll have 48 CU before I graduate, and 54 after summer. An associates is only 60 and I’ve already been filling out the UVA requirements. My idea was transferring into UVA and applying into McIntire, starting as a second year instead of third year, like normal transfers.

I see, I was looking into UCI, UCSD, UCSB, I just didn’t have much information about them, I assumed their business programs wouldn’t be elite.

UCI is arguably a stronger BBA program relative to IU and George Mason mainly because of the access to the LA and SF economies. Take a look at the Merage BBA outcomes.

For sure, do you have any knowledge about their output to tech management / sales / product management?

At Mason I would do IT/CS/CyberSec.

I’m going to mention a couple of schools, and I don’t know if they’re necessarily “better fits” because all I know is that you’re interested in working in finance and looking for prestige. Right now, I’m interested in making sure that you have some schools on your list where you have better odds of admission:

  • Babson (MA)
  • Baruch (NY) (look into Macaulay Honors)
  • Bentley (MA)
  • Fairfield (CT)
  • Fordham (NY)
  • Southern Methodist (TX)
  • Villanova (PA )

Thank you for this list! I’ll do some research on the schools you’ve sent here. A detail I did forget to add about my ECs that I am interning @ a financial advisory firm during the school year (very-very well known in investment banking), not sure if that helps, I forgot to put the detail in since I got my offer recently.

Is there a rolling admissions school that you would be happy to attend? Alabama, Pitt, Arizona, etc.? If so, apply as early as possible so that you can have a decision you like and wont need to spend lots of time on finding or applying to tons of safeties.

I don’t love the suggestion of applying to UCs. It’s going to be very expensive OOS — even if you can afford it, I don’t think it’s worth it — and it’s an entirely different application. If you are genuinely interested, that’s one thing, but don’t throw those on unless they are important to you. It’s not worth your time to do the UC application if you are more interested in other schools that require your attention for supplemental essays.

Also, because of your GPA, you will NOT be an auto admit to IU Kelley. You will very likely be admitted directly if you submit your appeal in a timely matter, but make sure you do it.

I agree that your list is very reach-heavy, but try to be strategic and thoughtful about your safeties.

If you’re interning at a financial advisory firm, then I’d also seek out their thoughts. If someone has experience (perhaps you continue to work with this organization in future summers, too), what role does that play in selection as a permanent member of the team? Are there colleges that they would (not) hire from? What factors do they take into consideration when doing their hiring?

My suspicion (which is a suspicion, not based on real knowledge which some posters in this thread have), is that if you continue to have successful ECs where you can show successful outcomes that resulted from YOUR contributions, and you go to a reputable school (like the ones I listed above), that you can launch a a career in finance (and there is a lot of space in the “finance” world…what aspects of finance are you thinking of?).

I would talk with some folks at UVA’s business department to see how possible it is to transfer from CC into McIntryre, as that would be my greatest concern with that route you’re considering.

Money isn’t an issue, my family makes a large household income, and I do love Berkeley and UCLA. For me those are schools I would love to, I calculated my UCA GPA it was a 3.93 UW and 4.62 W.

Private equity, HF, IB, MBB, is the type of field I’d like to work in. Regarding McIntire, it’s a 2 year school so sophomores @ UVA apply to it after 2 years. If I transferred from NOVA-CC I could be a 3rd year, but I would likely delay my graduation so I can apply to McIntire. As far as CC I have a 4.0 currently.

I’m actually a little concerned about this…for selective schools that look at class rank.

Your SAT score is terrific.

Not after 2 years, during their sophomore year*

Good news, my school is removing the class rank system next year luckily for me.

Not sure if it will be in play for my graduating class or in effect starting the freshman class, will talk to my counselor.

Even if your school removes class rank, the school will be sending a class profile as part of what the school counselor sends. It won’t be hard to figure out that you are not top 10%.

I see, thank you.

Emory may be worth a look since they do not use freshman grades. Still a reach but maybe a more attainable one.

What about Bentley?
