Chance Me for Summer Program/Class of 2010

*I meant 2014 at the top, sorry.

I know I don't have a lot of information yet, but any hints/tips/if I'm in the right direction would be super appreciated. : )

I know that the summer program only accepts 24 students for Dramatic Writing, and 500 apply (for the entire program, not just Dramatic Writing). Do you think I have a good chance of getting accepted/a scholarship, or should I not even bother?

Applying: Tisch for Dramatic Writing
Race: African - First generation citizen
Sex: Female
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Year: Junior, 2010

High school: Average Public High School, nothing extraordinary about it
Weighted GPA: 4.5
Unweighted: GPA: 3.9 (probably 3.8 after this semester)
Course difficulty level: Most Difficult (IB Candidate)
Rank: 4/540; Top 1%

SAT - n/a (wild guess: +600CR, +700M, +700W)
ACT - n/a
SAT II - n/a

ECs: Directed a few plays, Completed NaNoWriMo (if that counts for anything), Three Year Swimmer (Pretty good chance of being captain next year), NHS Vice President (99% chance of President next year), Be the Change Club founder/executive, FCA (also attended the camp), Creative Writing Club, Freshmen Softball, Tons of Volunteering Hours
Work: Summer 2008 as a Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor

Recommendation letters: They'll probably be really good. Probably from my english teacher and/or my theatre teacher. My english teacher is pretty amazing, and my drama teacher could have been on Broadway.
Hook: I haven't exactly decided what I'm going to use, but I've definitely got an interesting enough life to decide. My dad is/was a polygamist. I've played violin since I was 8 (I'm not necessarily good, but that shows dedication, right?). I've written a book. And I'm pretty darn funny, if I must say so myself.

Scholarship/Financial Aid for the summer program: My mom's single & makes about $75k a year. However, she has 4 kids, one of which is autistic. My dad doesn't pay child support or anything... so do you think I've got a good shot at a full ride scholarship?

Thank you times a billion in advance! :)

I think you have a great shot at being accepted. I don't know their citeria for scholarships so I can't answer that.
Good luck - I hope you get to go. Summer Pre-College at Tisch is amazing.

thank you! : )

anyone else?

summer college programs are usually not very competitive to attend.. it may be depending on the program you choose and the time period.. i attended cornell summer college and i got in with almost no problem..

hey first of all I would like to say how impressive your resume is.

Im a sophomore and I am applying to the Tisch Summer High School Program also (Film Narrative), however by accomplishments are not as nearly as impressive as yours.

It wasn’t easy moving to California from New York and I did horrible my Freshmen year.

I was wondering if anybody could tell me if I can get two recommendations from teachers or does one HAVE to be from a counselor (my counselor is so clueless since I go to a school with 4,000 kids and 6 counselors)

As a sophomore, my WGPA is 4.0 and by UW is 3.6 (hopefully it will be 3.75 by the end of sophopmore year) I know my academic capabilities and I know I could have done much better.

As for accomplishments, I have traveled to a remote town in Costa Rica for two weeks with only 2 adults and 30 kids, delivering thirty 50lb. solar panels to thirty homes without electricity.

I also one first place in reflections literature at my school.

I didnt make it to NHS this year :frowning: but i have won three awards by my teachers for Achievement, Critical Thinking, and Active Participation.

I also went to State for History Day and have been to the county level twice.

I really hope by essay is phenomenal, ive been planning it since september.

I know that Juniors have the advanatage in this but Im hoping by active participtions in clubs and organizations as well as dedication will get me in.

As for my parents, they are both unemployed and speak staggered english so I definately need a scholarship.

(I know this isnt as impressive as the girl from Phoenix, but Ive been gradually doing better in school and i can still apply junior year)

Please let me know what you think and lemme know if we HAVE to have a recommendation from a counselor.

Thanks!
