tufts/swarthmore: low reach
all of the other schools: i think you are a good candidate and your scores/ec’s are good, but those schools are so hard to get into that 95% of qualified candidates don’t get in
good luck!
chance me back!

bump pleasee

believe it or not, Swarthmore is going to be as selective as some of the Ivies. It is not a low reach. It is a significant reach for everybody, although your impressive stats have certainly helped your chances. Good GPA, exceptional test scores!

For Tufts, you want to be able to present yourself in your application as a genuinely interesting person. Your environmentalist activities look pretty interesting. What meaning do they have to you? How do you think Tufts (or any of your other schools) is particularly able to facilitate what you want out of your college experience?

Yale and Princeton may well be out of reach for you. Swarthmore, Brown, and Dartmouth are reaches that are certainly possible. Tufts and UVA are certainly good possibilities for you. However, you do not have anything which can be considered a safety. Look for a few.

IBfootballer: Thank you! I’m really passionate about all of my EC’s… I think that will definitely shine through in my essays/rec’s.

I heard that Princeton doesn’t look at freshman grades… Would this significantly increase my chances there?

Also, any suggestions for safeties?

Anyone else?

seriously kid, if you can’t get in anywhere you’d like, i’m sure my chances are nil lol.
whomever doesn’t accept you is ridiculous.
i can’t believe the things colleges are demanding of people these days.

Your UW GPA is a little low but your other stats look strong… pretty fair chance everywhere, top Ivies are really unlikely though.

Thanks, snakebitee & Drought.

Drought: “really unlikely” for me because of my UW GPA?

bump 10char

you have a great chances at all those youve listed
good job with those awards!
your uw gpa might hold you back but perhaps you can explain your freshman gpa in your essay?
good luck OneLoveOneLife

Thank you… I’m unsure of how to explain my freshman GPA. I don’t want to sound like a victim, you know?

My issue was that I lost my circle of friends as a freshman so my social life went from amazing to non-existent. My parents are divorced and I switched houses monthly which was very stressful. I had endless arguments with them. 3 girls in my math class verbally abused me almost daily… They actually were my friends in middle school. I faked sick many days so that I wouldn’t have to go to school and face them or sit alone at lunch. Additionally, some of my teachers were just terrible. My school is ranked very low in the state.

onelove, i have really similar feelings as far as not wanting to seem a victim.

for some things, i can acknowledge that it was my fault but then life just throws you so many other things to handle. i wanna bring that up, but i really don’t want to have a sad tragic essay or supplement :/

i also have a ton of absences in high school too, because i developed a habit of going in only three or four days of the week in middle school and freshman year because i had to watch my three younger siblings. ><

Blahh…maybe we could just mention it to our guidance counselors?
