If you are good with TTU then your list is fine. I suspect you’ll get in two two, maybe three.

I’d add more underneath but if TTU works then no issue.

You might add SMU or a U of Denver as a Wake alternate.

Good luck.

Are u saying you think i’ll only get into texas tech?

Do you know your budget? Will you qualify for need-based aid or if not, do you need merit scholarships to meet your family’s budget? My feedback will depend on those answers (I hope I’m not just missing that in your OP)

It’s great you have a safety you’d be happy attending! That makes the rest easier, but we need to understand affordability as well as the chance of acceptance to give the best advice. :slightly_smiling_face:

ETA: For example, UNC can accept no more than 18% OOS students in the class (mandated by legislature) and they offer little financial aid to OOS. UVA takes about 1/3 of the class OOS and meets need… so that’s a better reach option for acceptance and need based aid.

Yea for sure. Tbh I’m not too worried about price when applying. If I get in, then I’ll worry about costs and what not. As of now I’m just worried about actually getting in. UVA and UNC are certainly big reaches. What do you think about some of the others?

Please discuss finances with your parents. Figuring finances out later is not a good strategy.

You have strong grades and scores that put you in the ball park for BC and Wake. (I don’t know enough about the others to comment.) I don’t like chancing because there is so much more that goes into an app. We don’t know about your recs, essays and how your HS is viewed by these schools. You have done the work. Figure out the finances and put your best foot forward on each app and you will end up somewhere great!

Good luck!

I think you need to do 3 things.

  1. Talk to your parents about costs. If there answer is don’t worry we have it covered no matter what than your good and you can weigh your investment options

  2. Take a look at your list and ask yourself why each school is on there. Looking at lists and rankings are a great way to start your search but you need to dig down to the next level. If you like BC, because of the Jesuit education, proximity to a city etc, then start looking at Fordham, St Joes, Holy Cross, Villanova, Fairlfied… If you like UVA because its a large state university with lots students, and big time sports teams to root for then look at Penn State, Rutgers, Pitt… Once you do this then the next step becomes easier.

  3. Put a lot of effort into nailing the Essays. After doing 1&2 you should have a great list of colleges that are affordable, support your academic interests and are personally a fit for you. Now you just need to articulate the why the school is a good fit for you and why you are a good fit for the school.

One other thing is look at your ECs and make sure they say something about you rather than filling additional lines on your application.

I’m saying that’s the only one I’m certain you’ll get into. So if you’re good going there, your list is fine.

I suspect you’ll get into IU and Purdue. Your weighting system is throwing me off though.

So if you wouldn’t be satisfied at Texas Tech and it were me, I might add an in between like Miami of Ohio or Pitt since you have Wake I mentioned a few others.

Since you didn’t mention finances I didn’t go there but @DramaMama2021 and the others are dead on - b4 you name any school you go over budget with your folks.

Then when your parents tell you if X school is $75K a year and Y school is $25K that you are going to Y school, you can take off many - and refine your list.

Unless you are looking at wall street, where you go for finance matters little.

The problem with UT is they auto accept top 6% and A&M top 10%. You stated you are Top 17% This makes them both reaches for you. UNC being OOS same thing 18% cap on OOS

A few other options
Look at IOWA for a safety figure your RAI score in link and you will be accepted if RAI is 255 or higher
https://www.iowaregents.edu/institutions/higher-education-links/regent-admission-index
Miami Ohio good safety and gives Merit
FSU Target and has an OOS tuition waiver may qualify for

Off you list
Purdue, IU good targets
UIUC not a true target more of a hybrid target/reach
WF BC UVA all reaches

You may want to look at Michigan State. It should be a safety, and their Broad School of Business is well regarded. WF really emphasizes demonstrated interest, and if you can get on the radar of your regional admissions person from Wake, it can help.
Based on your stats, you should be direct admit to Kelley. Here are a couple of links for Wake and IU that may be of help. Good luck

UNC meets full need for OOS students.

Thank you for correcting that! I learned something new. :grinning: I thought Carolina covenant was only in-state.

Carolina Covenant is for in state and OOS, but the school also meets full need for everybody even if you are not in this particular program.

Gotcha! My Google skills are definitely off today. I don’t know how I missed this information when my daughter was applying or in the many threads I’ve read here on cc. Thanks again… That’s important information for many students.

Well my class rank is low because my school is very competitive. I actually just got into A&M yesterday and got into the Mays Business School.

Any college that is not affordable should be put in the reach column.

Get a budget from your family. It would be a shame to apply to and get accepted to a bunch of unaffordable colleges, and not be able to attend because of costs.

Congratulations on A&M! I feel your biggest problem will be deciding between what great school you want to attend.

Yeah I knew you’d get A&M. It used to be automatic if you had a 1360 SAT with 660 Verbal. A 1520 is phenomenal.

UT is a maybe. I think Wake could be a yes. I knew someone with 33 ACT and “just outside top 10%”who got Wake but not McCombs but full pay. IU Kelley is auto admit with your stats and Purdue business is easier than Kelley.

Have you been able to visit IU, Purdue and UIUC? My son is applying to IU Kelley and Purdue engineering.

I haven’t visited IU yet, but my brother visited Purdue and currently attends UIUC for Computer Engineering. He really liked Purdue, but he liked the environment of UIUC a bit more (I also think the purdue campus guide was terrible which kind of damaged his impression). I’m praying for Wake; I visited it over the summer and really really liked the campus. I’m hoping for UT but I’m doubtful of even getting in, then I would also have to get into McCombs so I have kind of prepared for the worst. Thanks for your advice, and I wish ur son the best of luck at Purdue and Kelley!
