Schools:
UT Austin- the only reason I want to go to Ut Austin is for McCombs or for the Petroleum Engineering program. I'd like to take the pre med pre Reqs as well. Any chance for merit aid? Chances for these programs?
TAMU- want to do the Petroleum Engineering Programalong with pre med pre Reqs. Maybe even The business school? Any chance I'll get a scholarship?
Rice- I know this is a high reach school for me but I'd just like to know what people think of my chances.
UTD- will only go here if I either get a lot of scholarship money. Will probably do pre med classes. What are my chances for the full ride or the Academic distinguished scholarship? Also is there any chance I'll be accepted into the UT PACT 6 year med school program?
UKMC- really just want to do the 6 year med school program. Any chance I'll be accepted into it?

I will chance back, thanks!

Hmmmm. I think you have a great chance at McCombs if you got a 2100+. Then just ED it and you will almost be guaranteed in. However, if you get a job, you increase your chances (McCombs loves jobs). McCombs also puts alot of emphasis on class rank, which you have. If you can get a 1390 M and CR SAT then you are legible for distinction academic excellence at UTD. Its a full ride + housing stipend.

[Academic Excellence Scholarship - Office of Undergraduate Education - The University of Texas at Dallas](http://oue.utdallas.edu/aes/)

Just saw that. It said the average was 1390. I have a 1380. Do you think I can still get that scholarship?

Edit: also do you recommend me using my ED for Austin? Any chance for Rice lol? Also is there much of a difference between the engineering schools in Austin and college station?

I think, with your GPA, you’d be alright for rice, but maybe you should do an internship or something, to prove that you truly do have an interest. Good luck:)

I think I’d probably just focus on whether or not I want to go to A and M or Austin. Which one will offer me more scholarships?

In the end my real goal is just to get into a med school. I just want a business degree or engineering degree as a safety. What do you guys think is the best combination?

Bump! More suggestions please.

First off, A&M is generous with aid, especially if you have high marks. You’ll qualify for the Lechner’s Scholarship because of your SAT. I got a good package, mainly because I came from a under-represented high school (Century Scholar), Presidential Scholarship, Top 10% scholarship, and a lot of grants. You might get a better aid here as the top 10% rule applies rather than the top 9% at UT, which basically draws a bit more of competition at UT so they won’t feel compelled to give everyone scholarships since most of its student body will be of high ranked students.

UT on the other hand, isn’t as generous, but McCombs is great! Make sure you apply to the Honors Programs, you might qualify with those SAT scores. Here you might receive the Presidential Scholarship which is around 5k a year because of your academic record. I received it while other people who were higher ranked than me didn’t, so you might have a shot!

Rice is very selective, and I would suggest you get a higher SAT score, if possible. This is where I applied ED, and to my dismay, didn’t get in, which was probably due to me being from Houston and my SAT of 1800. If you’re really trying to get in here, make sure you get that SAT score up and really make yourself shine in the essays.

Rice has great research opportunities if you’re looking for that, as well as UT. I will be attending UT this upcoming fall and I’m already in two programs that are pretty helpful (TIP and FRI), so I suggest you apply to them! FRI is research exclusively to freshman, and if you’re interested in engaging in research be sure to apply.

The good thing is that it’s early in the application process, so you have a chance to increase the SAT and more time to dwell on those essays. Make sure you write all three essays on Apply Texas as they look at all three to determine some aid, well at some universities that is.

Also, some schools are more generous if you come from a low income family, so if this is the case, you might get some great financial aid packages.

I chose UT because of the opportunities given to me (such as TIP and FRI) and because of the aid package, which wasn’t too bad, in case if you were wondering.

Also, make sure you apply to outside scholarships! If you’re from the Houston area, there’s a Texas Exes scholarship, which is for UT students, you can apply for from the Houston Texas Exes Chapter. I’m sure there’s other scholarships associated with Texas Exes, as they help future longhorns through scholarships. Don’t forget to go and ask your counselor on scholarships from alumni. There were several alumni from my high school that were willing to give 1k scholarships to students who were going to their alma mater, and a couple of these were for A&M. Your school might have some also!

Best of luck!

Thanks for that awesome reply! BHP woul be we some to get into but i saw the average sat there was 1472 last year. I only have a 1380. have you ever known anyone that is in the McCombs business program and is taking pre med classes as well? How difficult do you think that will be. Also do you recommend me to apply ED? Or should I just keep my options open?

You are in the top 8% of your class, you don’t need to ED

Yeah but won’t I need ED for like McCombs or the early engineering program?

Bump!’,!!!

Bump, more suggestions please!!!

Bump!!!

Bump!!!

I don’t know anyone who has those things you stated (McCombs, pre-med classes) so I apologize that I can’t help further.

ED for what, Rice or UT? ED doesn’t exist for UT, not even for McCombs. You just apply, lol. You can apply ED for Rice, but I suggest you do this if you REALLY want to go here. If you’re not sure, I wouldn’t sign the contract just yet, lol.

If you’re nervous about being singled out because of your SAT, work on it. You get what you put in.

bump! Thanks for the replies so far everyone! Would love more…
