I know it's not a high profile school but my high school career is not very fruitful.

I'm in top 40 percent of a highly competitive school, out of around 590 students.
My combined SAT is 2150 with 700 math 760 reading and 690 writing.
I did soccer for 3 years but that's about it for extracurriculars at my school.
All my core classes and most of my electives were honors.

What are the chances of me getting admitted?

You are an ‘outlier’ – your rank is low given your SAT score.

I used almost 200 GPA-SAT data points from our local high school here in TX and guessed at about where the top 40% cutoff is at our school to make an informed guess. Students with a similar profile from our school have gotten in at well over a 50% rate; however, much depends on the nature of you being ranked so low. Were you right at the top 25% cutoff, you would be a lock. The key for the admission committee is the cause of the drop from top 25% to top 40%.

Soccer for 3 years is a definite plus.

The most difficult decisions for admission committees are the ‘outliers’ – low Rank/High test and high Rank/low test score. Essays, playing a sport or being in the band, family situation, etc. all play a big role in these tough decisions. So, put the time in on the essay(s). Keep any essay concise, focused, & well written. For you, they may be the difference maker.

Keep in mind that the acceptance/rejection letters for ‘outliers’ typically go out in Feb/Mar: it can be a long, stressful wait. So, have a backup plan in place. A less selective school like Alabama will likely give you enough financial aid based on your SAT to keep the cost on par with A&M (Alabama is one of a very small number of major schools that still do SAT-based merit aid). I prefer A&M over Alabama, but I know graduates from Alabama that have gone onto have successful careers.

The major you apply for may also impact the decision. High volume, grind-it-out majors like accounting typically place more weight on GPA/Rank than SAT. Out-of-the-box thinking majors like physics are the generally opposite.

You will be a ‘holistic’ decision for the committee. You are not a lock to get in, but in my opinion you have a good chance.

Thank you for the response, would applying under engineering have any effect on whether i get in or not? I’m retaking the SAT so hopefully I can get 2250-2300. My backup schools are basically auto admit (UTSA/UTD) and if I don’t get into A&M I’m probably looking to transfer to UT 2nd year after attending backups.

Applying to an impacted major may have an effect on getting into that specific major but it doesn’t effect you getting into the University itself! Does that make sense? TAMU accepts students into their school first, and then they decide whether or not to place you in that specific major.
