My guidance counselor keeps pushing TCNJ for me to apply to for Fall 2013, so could a few of you chance me?

I am an out-of-state student (from CT), which I've heard they really want!
Unweighted GPA is 3.9/4.0
Weighted is currently 4.44
SAT: 1920 (Reading is 600, Math is 650, Writing is 670)
APs = Junior Year is AP Language and Composition
Senior Year is AP Psychology and AP Biology (which is going to give me 8 UCONN transferable credits)
By end of high school:
4 credits of English
4.5 credits of Social Studies
4 Credits of Math (Geometry, Alg II, Pre-Calc, Calc)
4 Years of Science ( Bio(Lab), Chem (Lab), Physics, AP Bio(Lab) )
3 Years of Spanish (through Advanced Spanish 4)
5 credits of chorus (including being in a special, audition-based small group)

Extra Curriculars:

National Honor Society
Blood Drive Club
Writer and College Section Editor for school newspaper
Link Crew Member and Club Commissioner
Two years of JV Volleyball
Part-Time Job
125+ hours of community service

I am EXTREMELY interested in the Professional Writing program offered here - it is so hard to find!

So, my chances? And any idea about out-of-state aid? I heard they were beefing that up.

TCNJ looks at 5 categories when reviewing an application:
1.High school transcript
2.SAT/ACT
3.ExtraCurriculars
4.Letters of recommendation (2-3 letters)
5.Essay (TCNJ uses the common app one)

Out of state is definitely a plus for TCNJ because they’re trying to increase the OOS population.

Your GPA is really good so I assume your class rank is good as well. Those are the most important things that TCNJ looks for. Your extracurriculars are excellent too.

As for the SAT, TCNJ only looks at reading and math, so your score for that is 1250/1600. TCNJ admits based on major and some majors are more competitive than others. Look at this link: http://ir.intrasun.tcnj.edu/factbook/FreshPrep10.pdf
and look under the school of culture and society (now renamed school of humanities and social sciences) this is where your major is. The average SAT score for those enrolled is 1243 for 2010 so you are above average for that too!

If you write a good essay and get a least 2 good letters of recommendation I think your chances are 90% :)

Thanks!!! My school doesn’t do class rank but last time I spoke with my guidance counselor she said top 5%. Any idea about merit aid with these stats?

For out of state scholarships you usually need top 15% class rank and 1200 SAT to be considered. It’s $2,000 to $10,000 per year at the moment but that can change from year to year. I’d say you have a great chance to get some merit money. Here’s the link for OOS merit scholarships:
